Hi everyone,
Does anybody have advice regarding what devotions are the best to begin with as a new Catholic (or just a favorite that you like to advocate for)? I will be joining the Church at Easter Vigil, and have loved RCIA, but would like some help with what to do to grow in my faith more “on my own”? Thank you so much!

Start with the basics. Learn the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be, and recite them regularly. They are the basic pieces of the Rosary, the tried-and-true and typical Catholic devotion. And learn the prayers of the Mass and reflect on them, especially the responses you make. You might also practice your Act of Contrition every night before bed, reviewing the day and thinking of areas where you could have been more attentive to God’s grace, before offering that prayer to ask forgiveness.

Take it slow at first, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Stick to the basics and grow from there!

Welcome home!

If you want to ask me anything I’m only a year ahead of you! You won’t look back and it’s great being Catholic . Try an app called God Calls that’s got saints days prayers etc

I’m a “Stations of the Cross” and LOTH - Night Prayer sorta gal.

Time spent with the One you love is paramount.

Adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament - the Source and Summit of our faith. All else follows from that.

Devotion to the Divine Mercy of Jesus is powerful. Our Lord Himself promised many graces to those that are devoted to it. Read Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC. In order to fully take advantage of this devotion, follow the acronym FINCH

Welcome home! I recommend frequent adoration, praying the rosary and this great app called Catholic Mega.

Really easy start could be saying the Angelus at 6 AM (or whenever you wake up), noon, and 6 PM.

Asked Lord like 5 minutes ago “How to stay strong in faith nowadays”, picked up the Bible - opened directly at Sirach 2:

1 My child, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepare yourself for an ordeal.
2 Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes.
3 Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honoured at the end of your days.
4 Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient,
5 since gold is tested in the fire, and the chosen in the furnace of humiliation.
6 Trust him and he will uphold you, follow a straight path and hope in him.
7 You who fear the Lord, wait for his mercy; do not turn aside, for fear you fall.
8 You who fear the Lord, trust him, and you will not be robbed of your reward.
9 You who fear the Lord, hope for those good gifts of his, everlasting joy and mercy.
10 Look at the generations of old and see: whoever trusted in the Lord and was put to shame? Or whoever, steadfastly fearing him, was forsaken? Or whoever called to him and was ignored?
11 For the Lord is compassionate and merciful, he forgives sins and saves in the time of distress.
12 Woe to faint hearts and listless hands, and to the sinner who treads two paths.
13 Woe to the listless heart that has no faith, for such will have no protection.
14 Woe to you who have lost the strength to endure; what will you do at the Lord’s visitation?
15 Those who fear the Lord do not disdain his words, and those who love him keep his ways.
16 Those who fear the Lord do their best to please him, and those who love him will find satisfaction in the Law.
17 Those who fear the Lord keep their hearts prepared and humble themselves in his presence.
18 Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, not into any human clutches; for as his majesty is, so too is his mercy.

He’s always listening, but not always answering, this time i lucked out 😂 Congratulations brother, welcome to the family, i’ll pray for you, stay strong in faith just like in Sirach 2.

I’m quoting this completely because it’s so good, both in the suggestions and in saying not to bite off too much. Better to be consistent and keep it shorter, then build bit by bit.

The only thing I would add is perhaps the morning offering to start the day along with the act of contrition to end the day.

Ditto on this one. Trying to take on too much or something that can be complicated for a new Catholic is just a way to frustration.

If at all possible attend daily Mass once or twice a week if not daily. If it’s impossible, then it’s impossible. When I converted my job made it very difficult to attend daily Mass. It is much easier now, I work for my parish.
