This from Mark Knopfler that I’ve just been listening to is a lovely sound.

I really like the band Dinosaur Jr., and whilst J. Mascis is not everyone’s cup of tea, some of his solos are just straight up awesome. (Amazing how people think guitar solos decreased with the rise of Alternative Rock, that’s simply not true)

Allen Collins in Free Bird is the quintessential guitar solo. He is so often overlooked in discussions in the greatest guitarists of all time.

Thanks for sharing your favourites.

Here’s my choice again because silly me didn’t paste it correctly last time. youtu.be/cJwJ11-pmxg

I used to be a big fan of Dire Straits but hadn’t listened to them for some time, and when I listened to that earlier I was quite moved by it.

J. Mascis belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s a travesty he has never been nominated.

I’ve always enjoyed Mark Knopfler, especially on Sultans of Swing! 😃
Sounds best with the amp turned up to 11!

:ouch:
Go on Youtube and search “Tina S”
This young lady from France is absolutely amazing!
You will not be disappointed

Definitely worth watching!

She’s got the quickest and lightest fingers I’ve ever seen! Very musical also. I don’t usually like electric guitar adaptions of classical music, but that worked for me. It somehow caught the feel of the original, while adding something.

OK, this probably isn’t what you meant, but there are guitar solos in it, and it’s less than five minutes long, so you can wait through the truly awesome banjo solos to get to them: youtube.com/watch?v=yQIJuu3N5EY

❤️

I really liked that!

It reminded me of the fantastic guitars on Layla, by Derek and The Dominos.

Which opens up a whole range of guitar from the sixties - Clapton, Harrison, The Allman Brothers, Hendrix…

I always loved the solo guitar accompaniment on Bang Bang, by Nancy Sinatra. This was recorded in one take, with the guitar improvised. 😃

Best one-note electric guitar solo: Neil Young — Cinnamon Girl

Best liquid-sounding electric guitar solo: Ten Years After — I’ d Love To Change The World

One of my favorite electric guitar works: Blue Öyster Cult — Burnin’ For You

Acoustic “fingerstyle” guitar: Loe Kottke — Even His Feet Look Sad

Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar: Cyril Pahinui — Hurrah Lani Ha’a Ha’a

You’ve reminded me of how good Layla was, and why it’s become a classic.
It’s often played on the radio, but because it’s over seven minutes long the full version is seldom played.

I’ve found the Eric Clapton studio version, because YouTube is now reading “This video is unavailable”.
I prefer the instrumental parts, especially the last section where the piano coda begins.
