I have a serious one: Kiss your wife for 10 seconds every morning.

You hold there long enough to make the awkward, geeky, weird, loving point.

I love all this great advice!

My confessor told me that our marriage vocation was to get each other to heaven.

I asked him,“What if my husband doesn’t believe in heaven?” and he said well then you have to do double the work and get your husband and yourself to heaven.!!!

Ive heard a lot of marriage advice:

You better get used to women taking all of your stuff because they will do it for all of your life.

If you want as much sex as you want, you better do it before you get married.

Marriage is fun, until the kids come and you have decades of your money flying out the window.

Never try to win an argument with your wife, you will lose one way or another.

Sacrifice, Sacrifice…and even more sacrifice.

Your kids will let you down at some point, you just need to be there with your wallet wide open when they do.

Oh, just remembered a great advice that was given us by a Catholic sex specialist :
sleep naked => the epiderms use the night to “communicate”, exchange hormons, and so on… and therefore enhance feelings of closeness.

I have to say that, after the few weeks of “adjusting” to sleeping in this way… it DOES work great. We’ve got so addicted to each other’s skin, it’s great to have this supplementary bond between us !👍

That would be a really interesting experiment, as long as you don’t have kids barging in to ask for cough medicine, or a glass of water(probably a nightmare involved, lets face it water is easy to get.)

I bet the skin thing works if you just wear fewer clothes to bed or just underwear. Maybe it would work to a lesser degree. I would be interested to see if I could feel a difference if I do get married someday.

Well, of course, we don’t have this problem yet as we haven’t started having children yet 🙂
But yes, you’re right, the whole point being of having as much skin contact as possible, being TOTALLY naked is not necessary: underwear is a possibility. The important thing being, I suppose, letting the main contact zones such as belly, back, arms,… bare.

The best advice I have heard on tv was

“dont start something you cant keep up for the rest of your life”

It had to do with men and how they are after years of marriage. The person said at the start of the marriage a woman is so in love and wants to tend to her HUSBAND that she tells him “Oh Ill clean that, Oh dont worry Ill pick that up, Oh thats ok Ill take care of that” Then later on they complain that He doesnt clean that, he wont pick this up and he wont take care of that. Why would they if you did everything for him for the first few years of marriage. So basically dont put up false expectations. If you want him to clean let him clean from the get go, if he starts to pick up things…let him dont stop him. LOL i liked it.

I thought of my mom when I heard that. She used to compalin that my dad never put away his shoes, or put his laundry in the dirty laundry basket or something. Then later we were talking and she said she would try to take of my dads shoes after work, something my grandmother did and I saw all the time. I actually would take off my grandfathers shoes and slip on his slippers for him. My mom tried to do that but my dad didnt like it, however she did pick up after him all the time.

When I got married my mom would always say “Always have his cloths ironed, always have dinner ready when he came home” and other things. I never did. Today my husband cooks, cleans, does laundry, he takes the kids out to give me alone time, takes care of me and a lot of my friends ask me to have my husband show their husbands how to be a man…I think its funny, but i know Im blessed

“Always do what’s best for your spouse.” My wife and I have followed this. We will be married 49 years next month and still love and enjoy each other because we look out for what’s best for the other.

My neice says we’re the oldest love birds she knows.

You are soooooo lucky. I wish I could have just an ounce of that!:o

I see a lot of threads on here about marriages and thought I would start a thread of the best marriage advice you were given, before or during your marriage. I am guessing this has been done before, though it is always a good refresher.
Envision a wall around you and your spouse. This is your safe place where you, your spouse and God reside. When you marry, you leave all others behind and cleave to your spouse.

Do not allow anyone else in your safe place. No parents, children, siblings, etc. This place is to remind you that you are together as one, with God. Protect and treasure this place and keep for you to go when you need to rejuvinate and embolden your love for each other, for without this strength together, it is hard to manage the day to day battles you face.

I’ve taken the advice of taking on very traditional male/female roles in our marriage and it works beautifully. My husband and I are generally very happy and content with each other because we maintain a clearly defined role and with that comes respect and a clear understanding of how to treat each other. I treat him as a man and the head of our household and in return, he treats me as a woman and respects my position of wife, mother, and homemaker. We don’t argue over petty things and our four children see us being kind, loving, and appropriately affectionate with each other.

Being married in a church doesn’t make a marriage Christian. Making Jesus Christ the head and the heart of the marriage makes a marriage Christian.

all of you have such beautiful pieces of advice! I’m so thankful for this thread. wish i had a way of favorite-ing my favorite posts 🙂

peace.

Be very careful who you marry.

That’s the best advice. If you wait until you have issues, it’s too late.
While this is true. .

seems really negative to me. . Like saying. . “You’re doomed and certain to get a divorce if you have issues!”

Every marriage has issues, at least maybe, one or two, right?

. . . Right?

:frighten:

This is SOOOOO true! I made the mistake of doing way too much for my husband early on in the marriage, and it’s almost impossible to turn back the tide… but I keep trying anyway!

Great suggestions from everyone here - I love them!
