Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to write down their advice! These are such nice suggestions! 🙂

At a show in Branson, mo, a singer asked the audience for longest married couple— the couple was married 63 years. When asked what the secret was, the guy said …

“Don’t die!”
:rotfl:🍿

When things get tough. Hang in there and don’t give up on your mate. Don’t distance yourself from your mate during the hard times…try to understand him/her.

Sometimes marriages go through hard times b/c of the stresses of life…kids, mortgage, bills, work, being up at night, etc.

These tough times can bring the two closer together if they see the tough time for what it is…just a tough and stressful time. Don’t reject your mate…make a committment to working things out no matter what.

one HUGE thing my grandparents demonstrated to my husband and I, (they were married 57 yrs) was something i don’t think i saw here yet:

-LEARN TO LAUGH!!! not everything has to be serious
  • There need to be 3 parties in your marriage, him, her and God (not in that order). make your God the center of your home and marriage
  • pick your battles (saw this one already). SO true. the things we fought over in the first couple of years together-i don’t even remember them now- wouldn’t even garner a second thought these days!
  • continue to date, even after the babies come. it’s important to stay connected one-on-one so that years from now after the kids are gone, you still know each other!
  • GET FINANCIAL COUNCEL PRIOR TO MARRYING!!! this one is HUGE. the NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF DIVORCE IN AMERICA IS MONEY ISSUES. make sure they get good councel, from a good financial planner, dave ramsey course, or CROWN financial class. they need to be on the same page about money from the start.
  • find things you like to do together, but still have a couple of things that you like to do with friends too. keep your friends, make room for them in your life.
i wish your friend a wonderful blessed marriage. mine is 13 years and going strong…

Always, always, always THINK before you speak! Ill-spoken words can tear at the fabric of a marriage.
