I currently own the Baronius Press 1962 missal. Although it is a beautiful missal it is very big and hefty. Is there a lighter missal other than the Baronius Press and the red booklet of the EF Mass?
I think the Angelus is lighter but FWIW, maybe it would be better to see what changes they plan to make, if any, on the 62 Missal before buying any more EF handmissals. They may add more saints or more prefaces which is quite probable. There is also the possibility of going to 3-yr cycle, which would make 70-95% of the existing EF handmissals quite obsolete. But I’m just going on rumors.I currently own the Baronius Press 1962 missal. Although it is a beautiful missal it is very big and hefty. I had not heard of any changes? I thought the existence of the EF mass was to leave it as is for the forseeable future. Where did you learn about these possible changes?I think the Angelus is lighter but FWIW, maybe it would be better to see what changes they plan to make, if any, on the 62 Missal before buying any more EF handmissals. TrueLight had a link to it and it was discussed in this thread.I had not heard of any changes? I thought the existence of the EF mass was to leave it as is for the forseeable future. Where did you learn about these possible changes?
FWIW, I hope you’re right, because the purchase of any more handmissals is not in my budget.this doesn’t sound like a very realistic probability…
I mean, I think this is kind of cool. Personally, I think something needs to be done to the Novus Ordo to move toward a common mass- alas a hybrid. I think traditionalists should sympathize with trying to do this because, after all, many are fans of the day when there was a common mass with a common language. Right now there are two forms of the mass. So if making the Novus Ordo a hybrid with the EF, I do not see that as necessarily a bad thing. It really depends how it is done. Although I do think the EF should still be preserved even if a new Novus Ordo is formulated.FWIW, I hope you’re right, because the purchase of any more handmissals is not in my budget.
I have this, the Father Lasance, and the St. Joseph. They are all useable for the EF, except the St. Joseph is not good for following the propers in Latin, but it was the most popular and extensively used in the late 50’s in the U.S.Anyways, back to my topic-
Does anybody own this missal:

Any thoughts on it? I know this is the '45 but I have heard that the differences are minor

I read your posts on the “The Latin Mass- why you can’t…” thread, they were very thoughtful. I have been to an OF Mass in Latin and it was very reverential. Yet, after attending the EF I could stand to see some aspects of the EF make more blatant presence in the OF. As far as my taste would dictate- secret prayers make their way back in certain places, the priest face towards Christ with the congregation, the EF prayer as the priests distributes the host (which is also the prayer used in the Anglican Use), and I like having the priest say the Pater Noster and the laymen finish up the ending, and universally install kneelers back and have kneeling be the official norm for recieving the eucharist. I think many young Catholics express themselves well with more kneeling, and I get a sense that there is a big request to see the kneelers return. I personally would love it.Personally I don’t see a better hybrid than the existing Latin OF. But that’s me.
I guess here is where much controversy can arise. Vatican II, after all, appears to have wanted to remove those secret prayers, not only because the congregation couldn’t engage in them but also because of their content. For example, the Aufer a Nobis prayer makes reference to *Sancta Sanctorum *(“the Holy of Holies”) and of course this would necessitate the presence of at least the Tabernacle at every Mass. These types of prayers will need to be carefully studied as to their suitability. As far as my taste would dictate- secret prayers make their way back in certain places,
I have an original ‘62 edition. It’s very good but didn’t you want a lighter missal? This is just as hefty as my friends’ Baronius missals.Anyways, back to my topic-

At the recommendation of some here, I purchased this missal and highly recommend it. It is very small and portable and perfect if you don’t go to the EF regularly (ie only on Sundays). Holy Week has been updated in the latest edition.Get the Stedman’s Missal if you want something small:
I read a review on Amazon saying that this missal is only for low masses. Is that true?At the recommendation of some here, I purchased this missal and highly recommend it. That would be odd, being that it’s a Sunday Missal and has the Holy Days, etc. Perhaps it does not contain the parts of the Canon for the Deacon, sub-deacon etc? No clue.I read a review on Amazon saying that this missal is only for low masses. Is that true?
