Emly:
What adult themes might you be referring too? Death? Sorry…
Oh, just off the top of my head:
1 - Why did Jak-Jak need a demon persona?
2 - Why did torture have to be shown so graphically?
3 - Why did Bob have to strangle Mirage?
4 - If Mirage was truly as pro-life as her one sentence, why was she with Syndrome?
5 - There’s nothing heroic about Bob in his role at home.
6 - Even Bob admits his home life is unamazing.
7 - Bob’s loss of external “super”-star status is what grinds on him.
8 - Bob has problems controlling his temper
9 - Bob is reborn by following various outside temptations.
Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if a script doctor was brought in at the last minute to make Bird’s original (and darker) screenplay more family friendly. That would explain why many of the pro-family/pro-life lines stick out oddly. And why those lines could be dropped without affecting the story line one bit.

Now compare that to
Nemo, which from beginning to end is a tale of a true father on an heroic quest and the parallel coming-of-age story of his son.
