You guys have no idea, this is making me really really really really really really (did I say really?) wanna pick up a Stephen King book.
I can dig it. I’m feeling the urge to go back to Deb’s Bookstore this weekend. You guys have no idea, this is making me really really really really really really (did I say really?) wanna pick up a Stephen King book.
I had forgotten about Bag of Bones.Bag of Bones - great ghost and love story, deeply atmospheric
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon- almost a dark fairy tale. If you love baseball at all, just read it. To say the least, you’ll be reminded of the simple comfort taken from a baseball game on the radio.
These are of course some of his “newer” works, and I think they’re underrated, and definitely linger with you long after the read.
Also, I loved The Green Mile and Duma Key.
I think “The Eye of the Dragon” is often overlooked because it was written for kids and is quite a departure from his usual fare.I know everyone has said it already but I found “The Stand” to be amazing. I come back and reread it every few years. Someone else mentioned this already too but I think “The Eye of the Dragon” is ridiculously underrated. To round out the 3-way tie I must include “The Long Walk”.
I liked that book. I did find it repetitive though and breathed a sigh of relief when I read to the end.I think “The Eye of the Dragon” is often overlooked because it was written for kids and is quite a departure from his usual fare.
In truth I think those stories are good because it leaves a lot of questions. WHat was the finger doing? how can it extend so long? If their is a finger, then what is it attatched to?Some of his short stories are ridiculous though. Recently I was reading from his book Nightmares and Dreamscapes wherein there is a short story about a very long finger which emerges from a drain in some fellow’s bathroom. The finger appears to be infinitely long and has knuckles spaces regularly along the length of the finger.
I don’t know what’s more amazing: that someone would write a story with such a stupid, random premise or that said stories was actually very enjoyable.
