Hello,
I am a semi-regular member but I didn’t feel comfortable posting under my usual user name as it might be recognizable by some of my family…I hope this is not breaking the rules. I just feel I need more anonymity.
I and my sister are both adults, she just turned 18 and is in college, I’m out of college. Today she sent me a link from a website called Tumblr, a microblogging site. Both she and I have an account but we’ve never disclosed our user names to one another. But the email had her user name so I decided to check it out just out of curiosity. I use my account mainly to follow a British drama I like so I really don’t have anything personal on my blog.
Well, to my shock my sister’s is deeply personal and is documenting her struggle with food, overeating, and she even admits to dabbling in pro-ana (anorexia) and feeling depressed (in the past, she says now).
I don’t know what to do. She’d likely disown me if I revealed the blog to my parents, they’d definitely freak out. Last year my mom came to me convinced my sister was depressed (I was hospitalized for major depression/suicidal thoughts at the same age my sister is), but I told my mom I couldn’t tell her anything for certain about my sister as depression manifests differently in every person. But that situation really strained their relationship as my sister won’t discuss her feelings or issues with anyone.
It’s just so sad to read her blog and feel so helpless. I think, from what she writes, she is doing better with it,…but I know no one can really know that. I would speak with my pastor but he’s brand new and I really don’t feel comfortable with him yet with such a personal thing (I’m Lutheran so we don’t do confession so it’s not like something I am “used to” if that makes any sense at all).
Please pray for my sister and myself…just knowing has made me feel very ill.
