Bias is not just false statements

I was floored by the fact that the Speaker of the Hous in OH had been arrested by the FBI as to corruption. The man happens to be a Republican.

The NY Times ran an article stating he had been arrested:
“Federal agents on Tuesday arrested one of the most powerful officials in Ohio state government, the Republican House speaker, along with a former state Republican Party chairman and three other people in what law enforcement officials described as a $60 million scheme to bail out a foundering energy company.”


That was at 11:34 am (ET) on Tuesday. What from Fox News?
" The FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio will be making an announcement regarding a public corruption case involving a “$60 million bribe to state official & associates,” the Justice Department announced Tuesday.

Fox News has learned that the press conference, which deals with an alleged racketeering conspiracy, is related to FBI agents showing up at the farm of Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder early Tuesday morning, which was first reported by the Dayton Daily News."


The FBI is going to make an announcement? He had already been arrested! Fox news also saw fit to throw in the article that an IL Democratic politician was “under suspicion”.

Both news takes were probably accurate. Does anyone notice bias?

Would NYTimes have headlined it Republican if not Republican? Bias for reporting in Fox for the story on two house speakers with on on going investigations.

Householder, a Republican, has been speaker since 2019 after previously having the position from 2001 to 2004. He left office due to term limits but rejoined the House in 2017.

This is just the latest incident of a state House speaker being caught up in an alleged bribery scheme.

Longtime Illinois House Speaker and state Democratic Party chairman Michael Madigan is currently facing pressure to resign after he was linked to a case of alleged bribery that has already resulted in utility company ComEd agreeing to a $200 million fine.

Both articles are fine. Of course they slant, but that is up for us to discern, disregard, and see common elements as the actual likely facts. This is why we should always use multiple sources from different POV’s.
 
The NYT probably wouldn’t have reported on it if he had been a Democrat.
 
Did you see the other way factual stories could show bias? Each person in the House of Representatives has to run for re-election every two years. Most of those incumbents have opponents in their party primaries. Why would Fox News print that AOC, Maxine Waters and Congresswoman Tlaib have opponents in the primaries? A bigger bunch of newozzers have not been assembled. None of them won yet Fox saw fit to tell us there were primary opponents, as if this was news.

It makes one shake his or her head.
 
Four different news sources today reported that the NYC District Attorney is examining Trump’s taxes as to criminal offenses committed by the Trump Organization.

From Fox News? A little video item in “Other News”. It wonders about Rashida Tlaib’s primary in MI, which it gave much larger coverage.
