Water baptism is a command and is an outward sign of an inward faith.
“Water baptism” is a redundant term, since the word “to baptise” means, “to immerse in water.” The sign of Baptism is water (obviously); Christian Baptism regenerates us from our sins and joins us to the Church. 🙂
My Bible says Jesus forgives alone forgives sins.
Your Bible is missing not only nearly a third of the Old Testament, but apparently also several verses of the New Testament, as well. 🤷

You seem more interested in arguing rather than dialoguing or exchanging thoughts and ideas concerning the word of God.

I have already pointed out the verses where Jesus shares His authority with His Apostles, but you have ignored them (is it because they are not in your Bible?), and you are still saying that Jesus “alone” forgives sins.

This is incorrect. Jesus shared His authority with the Apostles (whoever hears you hears Me; whatever you bind on earth is bound in Heaven; etc.), who then shared it with the Bishops, and it was passed on from generation to generation through the Bishops on down to today. 🙂

So, if I seem argumentative, it is because it does not seem as though you are paying any attention to my side of the dialogue. 🙂

I posted a post on here recently about how Im feeling lead back to my Catholic faith after spending the past few years in a Bible Based-Sola Scriptura Church, Ive been doing lots of reading this week and as Im slowly uncovering the truths of the Catholic church Im becoming so excited…

For the past few years Ive been fed so many lies about the Catholic church, Ive believed that Catholics worship Mary and the Saints, the Pope is like an earthly God, Catholics added books to the Bible, Catholics pay money to get souls to heaven…I could go on there are so many more, I believed these things because I was told them by Pastors and church leaders who appeared so scripturally sound, and have studied at various reputable seminaries etc, but Im coming to realise that they have a major mis understanding of Catholicism, when you really dig deeply into the church, it is so scripturally based and sound in its teachings, and just so beautiful but the problem out there is not that people are anti-Catholic, but that they are anti-what they think Catholicism is!

Because Ive been so involved in Bible based churches the past few years almost all my friends are from these churches, Ive been mentioning to my friends about how Ive been looking into Catholicism, and Ive had such hostile responses, but i now know the truth of Catholicism, Its hard when Im choosing to go this way and I probably stand to loose the close friendships Ive had the past few years, but I got to trust God will take care of me

God bless you all
Welcome home!

Anna, you brought up a great point made by Bp. Fulton Sheen years ago. I wish I knew his exact quote, but the gist of it was that people are opposed to the Roman Catholic Church because of what they think it is.

The debunking of Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide, things I was taught as a Baptist and heard from the Protestant ministers on so many occasions, are the primary reasons I’ll be in full communion with her this April. I can’t wait. I’ve grown so much since the RCIA course began in September and I thank Fr. Terry, Mike, John, Randy, and Eunice.

I had misconceptions about things; many of the negative things I’d heard from those who are most opposed the Church and her teachings turned out to be completely false. Worshipping the pope, the statues, Mary, et cetera.

I’ve got to get to work.

:gopray2: for you, Anna. 🙂

Yes Jesus shared His authority in many ways with the Apostles; ways which are only part of the Apostolic era, such as the eradication of disease. What has carried over is the preaching and teaching unto salvation of the gospel. We are all called to be witnesses, but the atonement for sin was the purpose that Jesus came and died. He is still and will forever be the Authority; He can and does delegate that authority to speak His words, so that by hearing some will receive, the elect. The power to forgive sins comes from Jesus and there is not a believer on the planet that cannot present the gospel and say to the person if they reject that you will remain in your sins, which the penalty is death and hell.
