And if I told you that, you’d want to know the name of it and if I told you that, you’d want to know where it is and if I told you that, you’d want a list of all of the members and if I told you that, you’d want to know what they do for a living and if I told you that, you’d want to know what kind of car they drive.
Nope—just what flavor of Baptist you are. Unless what kind of car you drive now determines your doctrine, something which wouldn’t necessarily shock me given all the endless schisms, it is irrelevant.
So what flavor of Baptist are you?
Enough of this idiotic infinite regress.
Yes, please stop doing that and answer the simple question.
I keep trying to explain to you people that we don’t believe that the Bible is the only authority and you keep on insisting that we do.
Unfortunately, a significant number of people who call themselves Baptists do believe the Bible to be the only authority. The confusion on our part stems from evasiveness on yours. If you want a customized answer, you’ll need to come clean as to which Baptist tradition you hold to.
You’re absolutely right! There is no place that says that the Bible is the only authority. That’s why we don’t believe or practice that. Why should I have to defend something we don’t even teach?
You don’t, but until you tell us what you teach we can only guess based on common Baptist beliefs.
So what flavor Baptist are you?
And why should I have to prove something I never said?
You don’t. Perhaps telling us what flavor Baptist you are would help.
We don’t have priests because the Bible tells us that we are under a new covenant and Hebrews tells us that there are no more priests.
And yet there were in the apostolic age, as we see from the earliest of the ECFs.
Perhaps you know more than they did.
We do have deacons and, while they’re not called bishops, we do have men who perform the role of bishops.
Perhaps if you clarified which Baptist denomination or community you belong to this would be clearer.
That’s why I would never tell them to follow me for their eternal life.
Good thing! That would be a sin, and without perfect contrition you’d be in trouble!
It wouldn’t make sense to be secretive at this point when they already know what I believe.
This is the purpose of signature lines and profiles. You could update yours and then everyone would know at a glance without you risking carpal tunnel letting it drib and drab out.
For example, my profile says “Catholic”. You now know what I believe, what my Church teaches, and can reference the Catechism of the Catholic Church for definitive answers to any questions you may have.
Moreover, you can even correct me if I, a Catholic, come out with a whopper such as “abortion isn’t a sin”—the Church makes it very clear it is a most grave sin and immediately excommunicates those who obtain, perform, or help to procure it.
THAT’s the power of unity.
At least if you give an indication as to which Baptist body of doctrine you hold to, we could refrain from ascribing beliefs from other Baptist bodies to you.
Based on your prior responses, I don’t believe you’re part of an independent Baptist congregation, which would complicate things since you might in that instance cherrypick doctrines from a spectrum of Baptist theology with no particular rationale.
Again, I’m presuming your complaints are sincere, that you want discussion, and that your snarky responses are simply reflective of prevailing message forum manners rather than kneejerk anti-Catholicism of the sort we see periodically from your fellow Baptists.
