I found this website, islamway.com/english/images/library/contradictions.htm

It’s title is 101 Clear** Contradictions **in the Bible. Any explanation?
My suggestion is do not pay attention to stuff like that. Find you a good book that defends all those contradictions if that will make you feel better maybe someone on here knows of something you can get.

God Bless,
Kerri

Not being an Old Testament scholar, I cannot answer the so called discrepancies in the OT, however, a quick look at Bible Study guides gives very good and reasonable explanations for the differences in the lineage of Christ used in this site…I went no further than the first six or seven so called discrepancies, as I found them to be nonsense. Why read all of that anyway?

Bible Study where? do you have a link? Btw, there’s this word “clear” in this website’s title, so I think, they make it harder for the christians to refute it:whacky:

Catholic, there are many good Bible Studies online that are thoroughly Catholic…You can do a search for them…as for what I’ve used to look these up?

Ignatius study Bibles are great…and have a lot of information, useful stuff 😉 You can get them at most Catholic bookstores.

The simplist explanation is this. Either we don’t understand what is being said, or God is a liar. I wouldn’t count on the second being true.
That being said, this assumes we accept that the bible contains the inspired words of God. If that’s not the case then if there are contradictions, it doesn’t matter. Its just another poorly written or edited book.
Since I believe that Scripture is the inspired word of God, and God doesn’t lie, then any apparent contradictions are due to personal misunderstanding of what is written.

Faith, believe, are not of the problem here. But still there are catholics out there questioned about these “clear” contradictions. What if these catholics live in a country with muslims as majority? with not so many good catholic bookstores with good “native language” catholic books?

So, what is the problem? It certainly isn’t the words of the bible, unless they come from some unauthorized fake.

That is what their pastor is for. One of his duties is to teach the faithful, even if they cannot read.

Here’s the thing. The point this guy is trying to make is that God wrote the Koran, not the Bible, that’s why the Bible has contradictions and the Koran does not (does it?). Here’s the real reason:

The Koran was written all at once by one guy: Muhammed.

The Bible was written by many authors over many, many years. It is not dictated by God (as the Muslims believe the Koran is) but rather inspired. None of the contradictions listed (I admit, I just scanned)affect any of the teachings or doctrines of the Faith. God inspired the message, he didn’t jot down the statistics. The Bible’s inerrancy doesn’t cover numerical typos but rather the message of our Salvation.

You really don’t have any idea how to be a catholic who lives in a country with muslims as majority.

ok, I can live with that

It’s not important if Koran has contradictions or not. But still our duty as good catholic to give explanations to those questioned these “clear” contradictions.

I agree with you 100%. But those contradictions how ever still have to be explained 🤓

Easily done… I swear, I think this Muslim fellow copied these off of some atheist site 😃

There are no contradictions in the Bible, some errors do occur, but those are copyist errors and some are just our translation problems.

Go to this Site here www.tektonics.org

It’s a Christian site, but it’s very good (no anti-catholicism there)

In the upper left corner, just choose your book and you can find answers to all such contraditions. Some are lengthy and require more knowledge about the ancient past and cultures, but the Bible’s a pretty fit book, despite being written by so many different authors, it’s harmony is amazing!

If suppose you don’t find a particular thing listed there, just search for an Apologetics answer through google.

The inspired truth of the Bible does not lay where this individual’s analysis finds contradictions and apparent contradictions.

Instead, inspired truth is found at the typological, or sensus plenior, level.

For example, Genesis 4 tells us how Cain the farmer/produce-generator killed Abel the Shepherd. Why is that story there, in the Bible? To tell us some interesting Bible history?

No. It is there to foreshadow how the bread (Eucharist) makers would kill the Good Shepherd, Christ.

Why are we told that Christ was born in “Bethlehem” and wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger? To tell us some more Bible history, so that we have cute, quaint stories to tell at Christmas?

No. We are told these things because they are a picture of the dead Christ (wrapped in swaddling clothes like a cadaver wrapped in a shroud) being served as food on a serving plate (the manger, a feeding trough for yoked animals) in the “House of Bread” (the translation of “Bethlehem”). In other words, the story is a picture foreshadowing that the Messiah Who came at the Nativity would have His actual dead sacrificed body served as food in the House of Bread, the Catholic Church.

The Quran lacks this typological level of meaning, because it is the uninspired book of a false religion.

according to the quran, if something is not from god (ie the bible as they supposed) you will find many discrepancies in it. Muslims pride that their quran does not contain any contradiction. but does that mean that it contains no errors? inerrancy and consistency are two diff things. It can be consistent (contains no contradiction as was supposed to be in the quran) but it might contain errors.

we christians believe in the INERRANCY of the bible (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblical_inerrancy)). in other words, those alleged contradictions doesn’t mean that the bible is wrong. It is without errors. PERIOD. Those alleged contradictions give us room to search for explanation.

read this genesispark.com/genpark/contra/contra.htm

That’s actually pretty funny.

Contradictions do exist in the Bible, but it’s just literature; literature does have a few typos here and there, especially when it’s been played with for many, many centuries.

If you’re looking to defend them, I’m not sure if it is possible to defend all of them or even any of them. The best thing to do is to just accept them; the historical accuracies and details aren’t important, the messages are.

Just to make a minor point, the Quran wasn’t technically written by Muhammed, God command to him was recite, and it was his followers that copied down what he said. Still, there is only one source for the Quran as oppose to the numerous sources of the Bible. Also, another point too, the earliest manuscripts fragments of the Quran and biography of Muhammed come more than a century after Muhammed’s death, which more than the earliest fragments we have of the Gospel of John (~120AD) and Mark (possibly 68 AD, if the fragment from the Dead Sea Scroll is indeed Mark), and the early Church Fathers such as Clement (earliest 96AD) establishes historicity of the New Testament era.

Also, most of the contradictions are probably manmade, there are a lot of rough places in Genesis, which probably are from redaction, though I can theorize that the Pentateuch was probably a much larger book, some of them lost as papyrus discintergrate, tablets break, and libraries are burned. And the Post-exillic editors did their best to make the scriptures flow the best they can. In addition, the mode of information transformation was highly inefficient by our standards. Scribal schools involved either copy from text directly or writing from recitations. And obviously with homophones in languages, such faint differences can occur such as if I read the book is red. Some may write the book is red, others will write the book is read. We do need to keep in account scribal errors.
