I’m working my way through the great adventure bible which is a great Catholic Bible from Ascension Press. I’ve been looking on YouTube for audio readings or overview of books in the Bible to help me.

I stumbled upon a channel called ‘The Bible Project’.

It’s presentation is clear and straight forward. However instead of simply giving a narrative they explain parts of what the Bible means and how it fits in with God’s overall plan.

I’m not a Bible scholar by any means and I’m currently working to just read it. Do any of you in this forum have an opinion on this channel?

Should I be watching it or would it be not recommended since it may present Protestant views rather than Catholic?

Thank you for any and all responses.

God Bless.

They have a website → the bible project - where on their About The Bible Project they state " We are committed followers of Jesus, but are not organizationally a part of any specific Christian denomination or tradition". So I would guess it is possible some team member may be a Catholic. But how certain can you be that this person has any influence on the videos produced to have the Catholic point of view?

I personally wouldn’t bother. It’s too important to me to ensure that my understanding is in line with the CC understanding and interpretations of the Bible.

Could you not source authentically Catholic Bible commentaries instead?

In the past I have seen other posters here recommend the Haydock Commentaries. HAYDOCK CATHOLIC BIBLE COMMENTARY - which may be helpful.

Check their bible. 73 books, OK. 66 books, they follow the traditons of European men and not the Church which Christ founded.

I went to their Website and then on to their Blog, and skimmed it … and was more left with the impression that there’s a very strong Leaning on the Old Covenant - in a manner resembling not “Protestantism”

For Instance: The Sermon on the Mount and Jesus as the New David by Patrick Schreiner, claims…
“The Gospel of Matthew is a rich storehouse of goods that only makes sense in light of the Old Testament Scriptures.”

For myself and others as well - it’s the opposite which rings the bell of Truth…

The Entire Bible - Is far better understood in the Light of JESUS … as encountered in the New Covenant.

However instead of simply giving a narrative they explain parts of what the Bible means and how it fits in with God’s overall plan.
You must realize, Protestants all come to different conclusions on what “the Bible means” and “God’s overall plan” thanks to personal interpretation. I’d advise against taking Protestant teachings on the Bible at face value… As someone else said, they follow the traditions of men (i.e. Martin Luther and his 66-book Bible), and you may soon find yourself adhering to certain (possibly heretical) Biblical interpretations depending on what particular flavor of Protestantism the creators of this Bible project follow. Just some food for thought. 🙂

Honestly, I consider situations like that to be placing ourselves in a possible occasion of sin, and the risk to our souls just isn’t worth the grief and ticket to Hell. It’s too easy to fall by the wayside in spite of our good intentions. @CRV and @BartholomewB suggested some sources and you might ask your priest or Director of Religious Education, too. Heck! Ask if they’d help get a group started. It never hurts to ask and you might hit pay dirt!

First of, I know very little about computers or online anything. I’m using an iPhone. If anybody’s checked my hidden part, I didn’t necessarily want to hide it, but I have no clue how it became bolded or how to revert it to Cathol…uh regular print (😂 Sorry! The devil made me do it! 😂😂😂). If anyone can tell me where to go to learn about that, I’d really appreciate it. I DID do as much of all the Mickey Mouse that I could understand when I registered, but the instructions were very muddy, in my stunted tech opinion. HELP!

The publishers of your copy of the Bible has several study programs, videos, etc., but they’re not free. I think you can view them at the Ascension Press website.

Also, you might find free ones by searching for Bible study programs for Catholics online. For Youtube, I saw Catholic Bible Studies, Fr. Mitch Pacwa’s videos from EWTN, and others when I searched for Bible study for Catholics in Youtube, but I haven’t checked them out yet. The same goes for related sites which I read about, like Word on Fire and the digital library FORMED on Demand.

Finally, if I’m not mistaken, the Great Adventure Bible uses the RSV-2CE translation. FWIW, the RSV comes from the National Council of Churches.

It’s non-denominational protestants in the vein of calvary chapel Costa mesa, vineyard, etc. I’ve read some of it and seem some of it. It’s pretty awful.
