**Reuben, thanks for inviting attention to the Quran. You have shown something good from the bible. We do believe that there are pearls (the wise words of Jesus) in he bible. Jesus also called them pearls.

I will leave the “Last hour”. But I will present somethign from the Quran, It calls itself “Hidden pearls.” Please see actual words of the Quran:

‏‏
[56:75] ۞ فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٲقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
[56:75] Nay, I swear by the shooting of the stars —

[56:76] وَإِنَّهُ ۥ لَقَسَمٌ۬ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
[56:76] And, indeed, that is a grand oath, if you only knew —

[56:79] إِنَّهُ ۥ لَقُرۡءَانٌ۬ كَرِيمٌ۬
[56:79] That this is indeed a noble Qur’an,

[56:78] فِى كِتَـٰبٍ۬ مَّكۡنُونٍ۬
[56:78] In a well-preserved Book,

[56:79] لَّا يَمَسُّهُ ۥۤ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ
[56:79] Which none shall touch except those who are purified.

[56:80] تَنزِيلٌ۬ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ
[56:80] It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. **

Perhaps I could not prove what I intended to do. Pardon.
Thanks planten. Challenge accepted. Here is a similar Bible passage to match the Quran 56:75-79.

Isaiah 55: 9-13 (NIV - for simple translation)
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

11 **so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty, **
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

12 **You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace; ** the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thornbush will grow the pine tree,
and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This will be for the LORD’s renown,
for an everlasting sign,
which will not be destroyed
."

Here to match your last verse 56:80
Mt 24:35, Mk 13:31, Lk 21:33
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Revelation 22:18-21

18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

20He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

God bless you. 🙂

Excuse me for my ignorance but here another one. 🙂

A brother, the other night during a business meeting regarding an activity (for the church) was ruing about the lack of enthusiasm from members and had this to say, ’ if Mohammad does not come to the mountain, the mountain will come to Mohammad …’. We were trying to hold the meeting at any cost. …

Maybe someone can comment. Is that Quranic or what? Byzantine_Wolf? 😃

Is this like how Niel Armstrong supposedly converted to Islam?

There are just as many scientists who have read the Koran and not converted to Islam. But you haven’t provided any real figures outside of an argumentum ad populam (which is a logical fallacy) to give a case for your statement.

The article discusses why they believe it to be a miracle. Again, is the Book of Mormon a miracle if the Koran itself is a miracle?

The fact is if you study the history of Judaism and Christianity, no one ever considered a book itself to be a miracle. Moses didn’t walk into Egypt and get Jews to follow him by saying, “Hey, look at this cool book I’m working on!” On the contrary, God performed miracles through him such as turning his staff into a snake and bringing plagues upon Egypt. Mohammad cannot compare; as dzheremi said, the best most Muslims can do is distort passages to fit what they want them to mean.
no niel armstrong did not convert to islam…okay which scientists have read the Quran and not converted and have explained why? Did u hear about dr tagata tagasone?

Definitely not in the Koran. I think it’s just an old expression.

Hey, and you know what? There was an old Far Side cartoon where Mohammad is sitting at home and a mountain is ringing his doorbell. Gary Larson drew Mohammad face. Granted, it was in a friendly light, nevertheless he drew him. I wonder why you didn’t hear any outcry about that.

It’s as good as it can get. A pity it’s not in the Quran because that can be quite powerful illustration that the word of Allah must be revealed - to Mohammad. He got his inspiration in the mountain but so pressing the word must be revealed that the mountain can literally comes to Mohammad (if the words must be revealed in the mountain’s surrounding). I should say that kind of saying is striking, but well, alas it’s not in the Quran.

As for Larson or the periodical, I suppose all it needs is for someone to blow it up beyond proportion, and I am sure there’ll be an outrageous outcry. But then again maybe Mr. Larson is not Pope and that could diminish its effect for drama.

i never said that they use it as a science book but when they see scientific miracles in the Quran proven today they convert to the truth (which is islam).

How would you describe that the Koran has scientific miracles proven , when in it we can find verses describing such as:
-The sun set on a muddy pond
-Alexander the great was a pious noble God fearing person
-The sum of all inheritance based on Koran law doesn’t match 100% total
-The earth was a vast flat ground
and so on goes the list ( this is just examples).

Your statement is incorrect, Zagi -

According to altafisr.com - Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, Amman, Jordan, states it is Alexander.

altafsir.com/Tafasir.asp?tMadhNo=0&tTafsirNo=74&tSoraNo=18&tAyahNo=83&tDisplay=yes&UserProfile=0

{ وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَن ذِي ٱلْقَرْنَيْنِ قُلْ سَأَتْلُواْ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْهُ ذِكْراً }

And they, the Jews, question you concerning Dhū’l-Qarnayn, whose name was Alexander; he was not a prophet. Say: ‘I shall recite, relate, to you a mention, an account, of him’, of his affair.

There are differing interpretations. More likely are that person is Cyrus the Great.
yeah…but from the sound Iskandar Dhulkarnaen, more likely it’s Alexander the great. That can only proof that Koran and Muhammad as the author has mistakenly think that Alexander the great was Cyrus the Great which is obviously mentioned in the OT…😉

Where is the “Iskandar” in this verse ??

OK…but in history lessons in Indonesia and in Malaysia (you can check this name of Iskandar Zulkarnaen in Indonesia and in Malay through the net) waaaaay before this is brought up in to dispute nowadays, we have always been presented with the name Iskandar Zulkarnaen, which obviously leans to the understanding of the Zulkarnaen as in the Koran.

Even now you’re still in dispute whether this is the Alexander the great, or Cyrus the great, or even a prophet in the future…? Blah…😛
That’s why when Koran says that you should check the people of the Book, aka the OT, you will find yourself confused that what was presented clearly in the OT, become a dilemma in the Koran, then there must be something wrong with “the effort of Copying”…not the corruption of the original book!😃

**There is mention of such thing in chapter 18 of quran. But meaning is not what is being told. When zulQarnain travelled he observed many things. At one place he saw the sun af if setting in a muddy pond. that must be near some lake and looking from the east side, it would appear that Sun was going down into something like that.

No more than that… unless wanted by the christians.**

Please look into the Arabic words “Kurrah= sphere” and “Yukawwiru” and see chapter “takweer”. It may help.

Also Zul Qarnain is the title of some one who covered both centuries. That is, he lived from one century into another. Because QARN means century. Zul Qarnain mean having two centuries. i.e a one whose time period covers parts of two centuries

Folklore in Qur’an-Who was Zul-Qarnain?
——————————————————————————–

Syed Kamran Mirza
Virginia, USA

The Zul-qarnain story was narrated in Qur’an by series of verses (18:83-98). Here let me cite a few verses related to Zul-qarnain story:

Quran-18:83—84: They ask thee concerning Zul-qarnain. Say “I will rehearse to you something of his story.” Verily We established his power on earth, and We gave him the ways and means to all ends.

Quran-18:86: Until, when he reached the setting of the Sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water; near it he found a people; We said “O Zul-qarnain! Thou hast authority either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness.”

Quran-18:90: Until, when he came to the rising of the Sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the Sun.

Quran-18:94: They said: “O Zul-qarnain! The Gog and magog (people) do great mischief on earth, shall we then render thee tribute in order that thou mightiest erect a barrier between us and them?”

Questions to ponder: If Allah did not consider the earth FLAT how in the world He sent Zul-qarnain to the (end of the world) place where sun was setting? Or. To the place where sun was rising? Does anybody needs to reach a setting or rising place to observe sun-set or sun-rise?

Who was Zul-Qarnain?

Many Islamic thinkers and intellectuals consider that the said Zul-Quarnain mentined in Quran is the Greek conqueror Alexander the great. Here are some source from where Islamic thinkers perhaps got this idea of Quranic Zul-qarniain as Alexander the great. The famous Quranic translator maulana A. Yousuf Ali gave a long story as Appendix Vll (titled: Who was Zulqarnain; page 760-765) detailing the facts and figures why most Islamic scholars including himself considered very strongly that, Quranic Zulqarnain was nobody but Alexander the Great. In this long Appendix, maulana yousuf Ali tried to justify why he thought that the person in Quran by the name of Zul-qarnain was nobody but Alexander the Great. Readers please see for yourself the above mentioned appendix in the Maulana Yousuf ali’s Translated Quran. Because, here in this essay I will only illustrate some important quotations (supporting Maulana Yousuf ali’s assertion) from this Appendix. Readers please note that, Maulana Yousuf ali’s quotations are in italics:

Maulana Yousuf Ali stated, “I have not the least doubt that Zul-qarnain is meant to be ALEXANDER THE GREAT, the historic Alexander, and not the legendary Alexander, of whom more presently. My first appointment after graduation was that of lecturer in Greek history. I have studied the details of Alexander’s extraordinary personality in Greek historians as well as in modern writers, and have since visited most of the localities connected with his brief but brilliant career.”

What is the meaning of the name Zul-qarnain? According to Maulana Yousuf Ali—“Lord of the two Qarns (horn). And other meanings may be applicable as implying: (1) is a man or a great king; (2) Lord of East and West, Lord of wide territory or of two kingdoms; (3) Lord of two crests on his diadem, typifying two kingdoms, or rank superior to that of an ordinary king; (4) Lord of more than one Epoch—one whose power and influence extend far beyond his lifetime.”

Maulana Yousuf Ali stated, “If we accept the popular identification of Zulqarnain with Alexander, all the three letter designations would be applicable to him, as he was the Lord of the West and the East, Lord of the Greek states united for the first time (Hellenic Captain-General) and of the widely-extended Persian Dominion which included all Western Asia, Egypt, central Asia, Afghanistan, and the Punjab. He was represented on his coins with two horns on his head: considered himself a son of Jupiter Amon (who had the two horns of ram), with a divine mission.”

“Now the generality of the world of Islam have accepted Alexander the Great as the one meant by the epithet Zul-qarnain. But some of our Ulama have raised doubts about it and made other suggestions: (1) An earlier pre-historic king contemporary with Abraham, because they say Zul-qarnain was a man of faith (Quran-18:88-98) while Alexander the Great was a pagan and believed in Grecian Gods.”
