I made a point last night to read the first part (juz) of the Qur’an, and I noticed something which hadn’t been apparent to me that I think is worthwhile to point out.
In this first juz there are a lot of “stories” about the Jews. Someone mentioned earlier that a person would have to be familiar with the Bible to understand some of these. I still don’t think that is the case because the important bits are included in the Qur’an, enough to derive a lesson without the full detailed history.
But what I found interesting in this passage in particular, which talks about Adam and Moses especially… the phrase used is:
O Children of Israel, remember…
It appears several times. These passages are directed TO the Jews, and the Jews are being told to remember these stories which they have heard before!!
Now mind you that they appear in the Qur’an means that they are lessons for all peoples now, but the fact that it is telling the Children of Israel to REMEMBER is very interesting. So I thought I’d share!
