Bible study turns to Catholic bashing

We do have to remember how easy it is to look at another person’s situation and see all that ‘should be done’, forgetting that we are not that person ourselves and not privy to the secrets of the heart. God is. We all have our crosses and I’m sure that what I think is ‘my heavy cross’ another person would snort at in derision ("She thinks **that **is a cross? It isn’t even a splinter!); or what I find difficult to do to advance in service to God another person would think so ridiculously easy to do that they’d been doing it since age 5, as well as other much more ‘advanced’ spiritual practices, etc. etc.

IOW. . .Let us be as Christ-like in tenderness and care to our brothers and sisters in their difficulties as we would wish them to be to us in our difficulties. Christ’s tenderness always led those for whom he cared to become strong for him; it wasn’t so inflexible and stern that they ‘broke’ under the yoke.

As a Catholic, I want to applaud and encourage your desire to learn more about the Bible and I hope this one incident will not prevent you from continuing your studies. I would also note that your faith appears to be a mature one, at least to the point that you recognize the difference between Catholic bashing and Bible study. The Catholic Church, contrary to the viewpoint of many, certainly does not fear or discourage inquiry into scripture. Indeed, the Church believes that frequent reading of scripture will enable the reader to come to a greater understanding of the role of the Church in the world and the mission our Lord has set for her. It’s a shame your desire to study scripture was clouded by the misunderstanding and bigotry of others.
 
I’m sorry that this has happened to you. It is very fustrating. I find myself in a simmlar situation. I spend time on wittenburg trail which is a lutheran forum. I have not been to RCIA yet but hopfly soon. I sufice for reading the catiscism of the Catholic Church for now. I constantly recieve Catholic bashing at times. Come to the Catholic Church at your own time. God will bring the family at his will and time. In the meantime I will pray for you. 🙂

**I never bashed either gentlemen, I simply stated that Luther was a heretic. I’ll say it again, LUTHER WAS A HERETIC. **An historical fact.

In all fairness, Luther has absolutely nothing to do with the Wesleyans - they branch back through the Anglican channel - there are no Lutherans in their “family tree.” 😉

According to YOUR church he was but in my book, that’s not saying anything. In fact your church has quietly embraced much of what Luther taught but would stubbornly not admit it.

Tha is not good enough, show me where and the exact words because I doubt it. Father Corapi knows the way to heaven is to be in the church that Jesus founded, otherwise he wouldn’t of ‘converted’ and became a Catholic priest.

Don’t you know the changes made in the church after Vatican II? If you don’t know then that’s your problem. You don’t seem to know what you profess to know about Catholicism.

Vatican II marked a fundamental shift towards the modern church, the decisions of the council, especially those regarding the liturgy, affected the lives of Catholics around the world. After Vatican II the use of vernacular language was permitted in the celebration of the Mass, and in 1970 the new sacramentary and Novus Ordo ( new order of the Mass) were established.
THE BASIC DOCTRINES DID NOT CHANGE WITH THE COUNCIL, it’s influences and documents created more profound changes for the CC than occured in the previous five years.

Regarding the OP and his fence straddling: I seem to recall that the great Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton wrote a book defending the Catholic faith- Orthodoxy- in 1908, yet he did not leave the Anglican church for the Catholic Church until 1921.
Yes, we urge him to join the Faith and be in full communion, but we don’t always know what is in the person’s heart and pray for them that God will work with them, and things will come to be in their own time.

Bashing is unappealing to those who witness it. How much more is it to those who are its victims.

And your source is Vatican II. That’s hardly a “quiet” declaration. 😉

I’m not sure why you think the Church is silent about the things it agrees w/ Luther on. Perhaps you’re not listening to the Church, but her detractors instead. 🙂

So does knowing about the Catholic faith. I have nothing in common with those in heresy, as I am a Roman Catholic period. I follow my church, my pope, if I attend classes in a Protestant church, I am also in heresy but I don’t because I have the truth. Sometimes the truth hurts others.

I have been following your posts on the thread I started and while you are entitled to your opinion that I am a heretic, and I applaud your faithfulness to the RCC, please understand I am slowly converting to the Church, and the reason for my post was to vent and I am grateful to the advise I have received from others. Your posts, as well meaning as they are, are not constructive. If you have good advise for me instead of calling me a heretic, I am happy to hear it.

Never said you particularly. What I did say is which some people here just don’t get is, if you are a Catholic and you attend bible classes at a Protestant church, you are in heresy. I just don’t understand how some Catholics don’t know this here, or simply don’t care. That’s it.
On the other hand, I do hope you consider becoming Catholic because if you research history, interpret the bible correctly, and love Jesus, you will see that it was Jesus who founded the Catholic church. 🙂
