Which Catholic bible version is better, the NAB or The Revised Standard Version? Or do you have another recommendation?
The D-R is good too for a traditional perspective.I have both.
Both are good. I am in favor of the RSV myself. There really isnt a reason why.
My recommendation: buy them both =)

Not all… watch out for the extreme liberal commentaries. The Christian Community Bible is riddled with liberalism, its a Catholic Bible, the Commentary on Daniel states that it is ‘written fiction’ and the prophet himself never existed. it goes so far as to call whole verses of scripture ‘ridiculous’.All Catholic Bibles are good. So you’re saying that some Catholic Bible, i.e. those approved by the Church, are not acceptable? Not all… watch out for the extreme liberal commentaries. The Vatican approved the NAB version submitted by the USCCB for use in the Lectionary in the U.S.New Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition (1989). It was **due to the use of vertical inclusive language **(re: God and Christ) and some uses of horizontal inclusive language (re: human beings), that the Holy See rejected this text as the basis of a revised Lectionary for the United States. Yes, I understand that certain limited adaptations were made to the NAB in authoring the Roman Catholic Lectionary. Still, the NAB is the basic translation used, not any other. The NAB version available on sale today in the United States is not the same as the one used in the Lectionaries . . below is further information quoted from the EWTN.com website on the **Lectionary NAB version **in use today . . . ********(the original 1970 version of the NAB is no longer in use and has been widely criticized because of the many radical and disturbing changes made in centuries old familiar traditional phrases such as “full of grace”) . . .
. . . :coffeeread: . . .Liturgical Use in United States
There is only one English text currently approved by the Church for use in the United States. This text is the one contained in the Lectionaries approved for Sundays & Feasts and for Weekdays by the USCCB and recognized by the Holy See. These Lectionaries have their American and Roman approval documents in the front. The text is that of the New American Bible with revised Psalms and New Testament (1988, 1991), with some changes mandated by the Holy See where the NAB text used … vertical inclusive language (e.g. avoiding male pronouns for God).
EWTN further clarifies this **Lectionary version **of the NAB in the quote below . . .

CDF - Norms for the Translation of Biblical Texts for Use in the Liturgy
In 1995 the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith issued “secret norms” to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (of the United States) to guide their revision of the Lectionary used at Mass. Prior to this time the Congregation had rejected two versions of Scripture (the New Revised Standard Version and the Revised New American Bible) for use in the Liturgy, owing to the unacceptable use of inclusive language. These norms remained “secret,” even from most bishops, until just prior to the June 1997 meeting of the bishops’ conference. This meeting approved, by subsequent mail ballot, a version of the Lectionary agreed upon by a working committee of Vatican officials and US bishops in March 1997. This Lectionary conforms to the previously issued Norms. … LITURGY LECTIONARY INCLUSIVE NAB CURIA Code=EE]
