Good news from the Sydney archdoicese - in this weeks Catholic News it was reported that the number of seminarians in Sydney will be 65 in 2010. There were only 8 in total in 2000.

This is great news. Any ideas on why the big increase? I’m thinking it’s Cardinal Pell’s influence.

The article (was in a nespaper otherwise i would link to it) mentioned 6 or 7 new ones this year and mentioned the World Youth Day which was here in 2008. Certainly thats was brought me back to the church so maybe some of those that were already in it made the next step?

World Youth Day would have been my guess as to a big part of the increase. I watched quite a bit of it on EWTN and it was inspiring.I can’t imagine what it would have been like to actually be there!!The article (was in a nespaper otherwise i would link to it) mentioned 6 or 7 new ones this year and mentioned the **World Youth Day **which was here in 2008. Cardinal Pell has been 'the greatest thing since sliced bread", right from “Day One”.
He
He cleaned up the seminary chapel by chucking out the chairs, and putting the altar where it should have been: God centred rather than Man centred. Various devotions have been encouraged. Before his arrival, seminarians were forced to receive communion on the hand. He brought in good teachers; unfortunately, one of them is our former Parish Priest!
Because of the state of the Church here, he pushed hard for WYD.
Long may he continue!
Sadly, most of our bishops don`t seem to be with him.

s a Bulldog whos not afraid of a scrap, and heaven knows. hes been in a heap of them. Hes pretty good at handling the hostile media, as well. Maybe it’s world wide trend. Here in Detroit, we’re up to 50 men in the seminary, and our pastor mentioned that there are 16 new men who will be entering in the Fall.

He then says how not to have vocations: “DISobey the Church, do NOT accept the teaching of the Magisterium of the Church, badmouth the Pope, and send them to LOUSY seminaries! You will have no vocations!”. Loud clapping follows. Then: “It is absolutely fatal to play fast and loose with Faith and Morals.”.

remember before Cardinal Pell went to sydneymy brother used to alter serve for the cathidral and once Pell took out his wallet and gave 20 buck to my brother and his friend for alter serving. even thoe they where getting paid by there school fees deceasing for every mass they did.
