FYI just saw where Bill and Hillary are charging as little as $2-00 a ticket.Sounds pretty affordable to me
 
With the overwhelming medical bills we have, $2 is half of our egg money for the week.

We need legislation/changes that actually reduce the medical bills, not just shift who pays for them.
  • drug prices are too high
  • tort reform to reduce OH
  • require providers to publish their rates
 
I guess it is now somehow Christian to gloat in the declining income of those who do not agree with us politically.

If people are on your ignore list, stop responding to their posts with insults,
especially insults that actually don’t make any sense.
 
We need to make sure that people are not reduced to modern begging on Go Fund Me to pay for basics like rent and food. Right now, my husband is suffering from end stage heart failure.

Our combined income is 25,000 per year.

We pay 14,000 per year in insurance premiums per year. (Medicare premium + Medicare Supplement + RX plan for DH and group work insurance for me).

This does not include co-pays (DH runs around $200 per month in RX co-pays)

This year I will exhaust all of my small 401K paying these things. If there is not a change, next year we will have to go live in the basement of a friend or have relatives take us in. We are in our mid 50’s, we have worked hard all of our lives, both of us since teen years. Both college educated.

I eat peanut butter every day and let DH have three meals. We drive a very old used car and pray it starts every day. We live in a bad neighborhood. Literally our only “luxury” is the internet, DH has to sit home all day all alone, his eyes are so bad from meds that he cannot read books anymore. We cannot afford gas for him to go someplace to have a break, and his depression took such a dive when there was nothing left to distract him.

We lost everything in the “tech bubble” a decade ish ago. We were slowly rebuilding and then this catastrophic illness hit us.

It is easy to say “well, I’d go find a better job” but, I have to care for him, my work does give me FMLA unpaid but protected time off. I have a visible disability, for people like me the unemployment rate is around 50%.

Tort reform would not help me in one bit. I simply want to live the last years of my married life, before my husband dies a painful, early death, with a little bit of dignity.

God bless you, TLL, I am praying for you, and your post is spot on.

Until American politics took a very ugly turn, the concept of those in need in America was referred to as the “deserving poor”, and in accordance with our nations Judeo-Christian mindset, we encouraged personal and governmental assistance for those.

At some point, in the not too distant past, the “deserving poor” was redefined as “me, me, me” and there are no deserving poor, unless I am the one in need. So we have turned our backs on neighbors and immigrants, and the other marginalized in our society, and seemingly have forsaken the Gospel message.

Your situation sounds very difficult to manage. Perhaps you could approach the pharmas that source your husbands meds and ask for some help with the costs, or thru various groups that lend assistance. Paying $14000 a year in insurance costs seems unreasonable - better off without the insurance except for your home. Based on income, food is provided every month to those in need most every State, and churches always have food pantries. These are just a couple of suggestions for anyone in dire straights. With extra effort hopefully your situation will improve.

People who are struggling have always needed to ask for help, I don’t see a problem with that and want to focus on whether help is available when solicited.

We have SNAP, Welfare & Medicaid available for the asking. We also have numerous non-profits that lend assistance.

Go Fund Me is just a modern way to effectively ‘pass the hat’ and I like it. With fewer people attending churches or community events, it’s not so easy to pass the hat these days.

I will not touch on your situation beyond my earlier comment that I want the Govt to reduce the actual cost of medicine and care. This wouldn’t solve your problems but it would help.

I’ve had to ask my relatives for help in my past. I was fortunate that they were there for me.

Enough to say that not everyone is seeing an increase in income. There are real people with real struggles.

Don’t believe everything that the bloggers or TV talking heads tell you about how easy it is to get free medical care.

Do you realize how insulting this sounds to someone who has, between being an unpaid home health care worker and full time employee, has not had a day off since October of 2018?

The economy is booming. We have the lowest unemployment since 1969.

I think people would rather spend $829 on something good, like tickets for the Rolling Stones Tour (which, sadly, got postponed).

Or $10-$20 on a movie.

Or on making those necessary home repairs so when the economy tanks again, they don’t spend a winter wearing sweats and wrapped in blankets huddling in front of a WalMart space heater!

Would any of you, fellow CAF members, spend money to go hear any of the Clinton family speak?

I would pay it to hear Pres. Clinton (Bill) play the saxophone!
