I don’t watch or get HBO or watch this stuff but heard about this on the radio.

Bill Maher, true to form on his “Real Time” program on HBO on Friday, went on a tirade against Pope Benedict XVI and the Catholic Church, only days before the Pope’s visit to the U.S… He stated that the Pope “used to be a Nazi” and compared him to a cult leader. He then went on to call the Church a "child-abusing religious cult" and "the Bear Stearns of organized pedophilia." “And that’s the Church’s attitude: ‘We’re here, we’re queer, get used to it,’ which is fine, far be it from me to criticize religion.”………

I guess in some way I feel sorry for folks like Bill Maher. They have nothing sacred in their lives.
 
Socialists, atheists, pagans, etc. have been trying to destroy the Church for a long time. Our best hope is to live a life of quiet confidence based upon our trust in God and proclaim the Good News wherever we are. Like Voltaire, Hitler, Stalin, Bill Maher and all other nasty people die and that’s the end of them as far as we are concerned

It’s actually a minority that can become a cult by definition I think. Otherwise ‘cult’ would just be relative.
 
Just another reason why I do not subscribe to HBO etc… and if I did I sure would not watch the likes of this sicko. This is just another example of satan’s attacks on the Body of Christ.

Bill Maher is an untalented idiot who has to do outrageous stuff to get noticed. How many people show up for a Bill Maher event and how many show up for a papel event? That should tell us something.
 
I really feel so sad for him. He knows not what he is doing. We all really need to pray for him. My heart breaks for him he is being so destructive to his soul and he doesn’t even know it.

I really hope we will all remember to keep him and all of those like him in our prayers. Life is short and eternity is forever, lets hope he repents soon.
 
I used to watch his show regularly. Back when he had good political discussions.

He seems to be getting into some weird stuff lately. One recent episode he claimed that he never got ill because of the vitamin supplements he takes. He was completely serious.

This, from a man who claims to understand scientific method. Which, is what I used to like about him. He used to be so damned methodical. I didn’t always agree with what he said or his conclusions, but at least he made a good argument.

Lately, he has fallen apart and has devolved into the people he criticizes. Those that just rant and harp on the same thing, no coherent argument required. I don’t watch his show much any more.
 
Bill Maher is an idiot. He’s just another crackpot that hates religious people so much that he has to dedicate his life to insulting them.
 
It seems to me the biggest problem with this particular rant is that his facts are so wildly off base…it impacts whatever point he’s trying to make with his thesis.
 
Isn’t that slander to go around saying someone “used to be a Nazi” Yes we all know that Ratzinger was forcibly recruited into hitlers youth. But so was just about every other german kid back then. It wasn’t like he WANTED to be there. And wasn’t be good friends with JPII who was Polish? that should say alot about his supposed “Nazism”. I mean really, you can’t go around dragging someones name throught the mud like that. It’s one thing to hate someone based on who they really are. It’s another to make up stuff so ppl can hate him for what you want him to be. I mean hate isn’t ok period. but really? Lying only makes you look like you’re jelous or something. I’m from DC. Do you KNOW how many people are so excited about seeing the Pope? I don’t even think alot of the ppl who want to see him are even Catholic. What does that say, when even people outside your religion also love you? Does Maher garner that sort of attention? NO. He’s on Cable…HBO no less. You could argue that becasue the ppl who follow him are so small, that he is a cult leader. i don’t think anyone really likes him though. He’s not very funny. Is he supposed to be funny?. He’s a comedian right?
 
Bill Maher will go away when people stop watching him. And if every Catholic stopped subscribing to HBO or stopped watching his show, he would be dropped quickly. We need to learn to defend our faith against people who say such terrible things about our Holy Church.

I don’t actually “watch” his show…as in I don’t sit through it. Even before he had said all that stuff, i knew it seimply was not for me. His show simply isn’t funny, it’s just mean spirited. Who really wants to sit through THAT? I get HBO as part of my room and board at school which us the only time I watch it.And the only reason I watch it is because of the movie selection. For every bad show they have some great movies. And almost all their shows are very short lived anyway. They last like…two are three seasons…maybe less.
 
The same Bill Maher who couldn’t find any acting work. Then he tried a network talk show and it sank like a stone.

His show on HBO would be funny if it wasn’t for his apparent seriousness in what he believes - then it is an elementary lesson in straw-man logic. If he ever wanders into a formal format he will be toast.
 
Maher seems tortured to me. I really think he lives in some kind of hell of his own making.

I saw it…Bill is a real jerk if you ask me.
 
He is an idiot, yet you guys are all talking about him as though his opinion on HBO matters. When is the last time HBO ever had a show that spoke highly of Christians? The Bolsheviks won’t allow the Christian right to be anything but a laughing stock. They are constantly waging war on the Church for decades, but they went under a different name, moreover they are changing what they call themselves all time. G.K. Chesterton called them, “Progressives”, Bill O’Reilly calls them “Secular Progressives”, Joseph McCarthy called them “Communists” and Walt Disney called them “Labor Unions”. So beware the ones that change their nicknames, but it’s easy to spot them because their message is always the same. :twocents:
