Even if he does apologize he will not be genuine or contrite, the only reason is because his higher ups will have forced him to. He is still an anti-christian\anti-catholic bigot. If you do not agree with his point of view then you are the ignorant bigot not him. Pray for him that he will see the truth and be sincere.
 
Mr. Maher’s idea of someone to admire is Hugh Hefner. Enough said.
 
What I find annoying is that if ANYONE, including Bill Maher, had said something like he did about ANY OTHER GROUP they would have been fired. But since he demeaned the Catholic Church he gets a pass.

Maher is anti-Christian and has been for a long time. I remember my sister quoting him once to me years ago, how he had said “I grew up religious, but I grew out of it” ~ as if religion is some sort of childish fairy tale. But his audience eats this stuff up, so the key, as many have so rightly posted, is to reduce his audience.

I don’t subscribe to the HBO or any sort of special channel that he might appear on, but if I did, I would cancel it and I would tell them why.
 
Maher is a coward. He functions under the guise of honest political dialogue, but his panel is always stacked with at least 3 liberals to one moderate conservative. There is nothing honest or fair about that. His audience consists of nothing but far-left lemmings, who hoot and howl at Maher’s insults like he is speaking some kind of truth. They are there to hear Maher’s blind hatred for President Bush and everything conservative and/or Christian.

The real truth is that any apology by Maher will be more sideshow. HBO does not care who is insulted by Maher, because HBO is an internal organ of the far-left in this country. They are nothing more than promoters of pornography, anti-Christian thought, and everything far-left.

As for Bill Maher, well, he is nothing more than a failed comedian, a failed actor, and a political hack. The people who watch his show, or enjoy his idiocy, are not interested in whether or not they are forming an opinion based on anything objective or fair. Don’t they all seem so cozy in their little world of anger and hatred?
 
bill maher is a jon stweart wanna be. he desperatly wants to be seen as hard hitting and funny. but the trouble is. he is neither. so all he has left are insults. he is pathetic.

Maybe you should make a request to the school to cancel their service with HBO, because of this. I know I will not be staying in any hotels that have “Free HBO” and I will be telling the hotels why I am not staying there.

Those Romans weren’t so bad I mean I know they killed Christians but the Gladiatorial contests at the Colosseum were really cool. And hey they didn’t kill that Christians.
 
On Foxnews.com and on the DrudgeReport.com Bill Maher did NOT apologize last nite in the true sense of it. He backtracked on calling His Holiness a “Nazi Youth” but diminished that retraction with other links to Naziism.

Maher has a very narrow view of the Church and he skims for failings of the sordid human presence in the clergy. Forces me to think about Judas Iscariot…he was one of the Apostles and he was a betrayer. But the Church continued on WITHOUT Judas Iscariot.

This man is a bigot and full of False Pride…that is the major flaw that will bring him down. It will curious to see where all this will take him. Maher did NOT apologize…he still hates the Church.

As for HBO, they only gestured so to quell the protest. They will keep Maher on because they are like-minded, IMO.
 
Why are Catholics so wet–as we used to say in England–about things like this?

Pray for Bill Maher all you like, but perhaps if we Catholics cancelled our subscriptions to HBO, the owners of our airwaves would start to pay attention, and Mr. Maher, like Don Imus, would be out of a job.

The insults are objectionable, but it’s the lying, the poisoning of public discourse that’s truly destructive, and that we should take joint action to stop.

Remember–if Mr. Maher insulted the chief rabbi, or the NAACP, or his local mosque, his career wouldn’t last five minutes longer.

That’s like saying I won’t use the internet because people put porn on it or that I won’t got school (or pay to go) because some of the classes and Professors are offensive. I just try to find the good in the sea of bad. I mean, if there was an overwhelming amount of negativity around me, i would leave. But I don’t feel that I should go out of my way to change things that are easily avoided. I mean there are some magazines I simply refuse to read because there is little to no possitive material available. But there are some magazines that have tons of great stuff and then like a few bad things. I like to read Essence and Ebony because they have realy good articles about finance and stress and exercise. but one time there was an actress who wrote a mini column about her fears regarding the overturning of RvsW. Obviously she was pro abortion. In fact, this was the same magazine that has had multiple articles on the merits of abstinence and virginity in the black community. It was right on the front page. I never watched HBO growing up so, perhaps I don’t have the same feelings toward it that many others do. but I just watch it for the movies. The only thing that really struck a chord with me was the late night porn and that Playboy show.
 
No, no, no. Learn to argue. We need to drive, we need roads. True, there are bad drivers, but the road itself is neutral. Likewise with the internet. But HBO? HBO isn’t the road, it’s one of the drivers. HBO is a vendor, selling products over the airwaves. It is selling blasphemy and untruth, and any Catholics who cancel their subscriptions are acting entirely rationally. especially if they buy their HBO subscription as part of a “bundle” that includes all sorts of inoffensive, pleasant things. Let companies like Comcast know that HBO is unacceptable to 60 million Catholics, and Comcast will rearrange its bundles very quickly.

I have signed it, called my cable company and canceled both HBO and Cinemax (which is an HBO company) and made sure to tell them why. I also emailed the CEO of HBO and Time Warner Investor Relations (see below). If enough of us do this, they WILL get the message.

Dear Mr. Nelson,
Words like Maher’s poison public discourse with lies, personal abuse, and libel. It’s not a matter of free speech. Had he made those remarks in Britain, he would have exposed himself to very heavy damages for libel; in Britain his “reckless disregard for truth” in commenting upon the Pope’s career as an ecclesiastical administrator could even expose him to prosecution for criminal libel.
Since HBO is the vendor of Maher’s nastiness, and since American libel law extends little or no protection to public figures and institutions, I have done the only thing I can do, which is to cancel my subscription to HBO.

I will no longer pay to be insulted by the likes of Bill Maher and by the garbage that passes for original programming on your station. HBO functions as a promoter of pornography and a voice for the far-left in this country. Your station also exudes an obvious anti-Christian sentiment.

The recent comments by Bill Maher concerning Pope Benedict XVI, and Maher’s constant, consistent verbal abuse he directs toward the Catholic Church, have cost HBO the loss of a long-time paying customer.

Maher is a failed comedian, a failed actor, and a political hack. The fact that HBO provides a forum for Maher to spew his venom and insults speaks volumes about the intent of the message HBO wants to send to its audience.

I am no longer part of that audience and HBO will no longer turn this country in to Sodom on my dime.

Good job, guys!👍 I don’t subscribe to hbo, but I e-mailed them & signed the petition. I’m a little concerned that many of the comments posted on the petition are fairly un-Christian, though. I COMPLETELY understand the anger & frustration, but we have to remember we represent Jesus & our comments should reflect Him. I worry non-Christians will go to this site & see no difference in our actions. Did anyone else notice this?
 
I signed the petition. I realize that if we are to be followers of Christ, we will be hated by the world. That’s no reason to take this lying down. I’m tired of Christians, and Catholics in particular, being targets for hate speech. I was appalled at Maher’s comments.
 
It is interesting that he is allowed to say these things on HBO against the Catholic Church. I doubt HBO would put up with him saying something like this about Buhddist, Jews, Hindus, Shintos, Native American faiths, or Gays (not a religion, I know). And if he said something like this against Moslems, there would be a fatwa on him in a heartbeat. But for some reason it is Ok to pick on Christians in general and Catholics in particular.

We are clearly not loud enough, or perhaps we choose not to give this sad individual any more free publicity. I have never really cared for him. He has George Carlins bent against the Church, but unlike Carlin, Mahr never was funny. Carlin used to be many, many years ago before his bitterness worked its way into his act.

Maybe some people cling to anger and vitriolic anti-religious tirades out of bitterness.
 
Well, I admit I am an avid Bill Maher fan, however he does make comments that are sometimes exaggerated for effect because lets not forget he is a comedian. So, is the pope a Nazi? No. Is all religion really bad? No. Is the Catholic church a cult? No, not at this point in time, but let’s not forget 2000 years ago Jews looked down at Catholics as a strange sect much in the same way as the cult in Texas. However, at that point in time Catholicism was pure and untainted by human intervention, unlike that skewed brand of Christianity. The point Bill was trying to make and he did in his “apology” was that Catholicism messed up and the rules are not the same for religion and big business. I really do not find anything racist about it. He said that the organization of the Catholic church is basically a training center for pedophiles, which of course is not true, but is the Catholic church so full of itself that we are above criticism. He is a comedian he is paid to exaggerate. He voiced his opinion about people who believe in religion, which I do not agree with, but it is not racist because it is a choice that people make with their lives. If someone said, “People who disagree with me are idiots,” it wouldn’t be a racist remark and that is really all he said. Religion is a choice and by making it something more is inherently racist and discriminatory. I believe in God because I believe I will gain the full understanding of my being, not because I was born into it. Bill does not believe in God cause he thinks it’s a waste of time and that’s his right as an American. People should stop making judgments based on their emotions. Just because you get upset by a comment someone makes does not mean its racist.
