Isn’t that slander to go around saying someone “used to be a Nazi” Yes we all know that Ratzinger was forcibly recruited into hitlers youth. But so was just about every other german kid back then. /quote]

Josef Ratzinger was a member of the Hitlerjugend. He was later a soldier in the German Wehrmacht and spent several months in a prisoner of war camp in 1945 after the end of WWII in Europe. After his release he went back home. Most of those young Germans were highly and effectively indoctrinated but most were not admitted as members of the NSDAP; I have never seen anything to indicate B16 was a party member or that anyone in his family was. It is my understanding that massive German records from the Hitler era are being opened to researchers for the first time. We’ll see what develops along those lines but I doubt if anything will turn up.

Without his consent.

After deserting and being fortunate enough to be captured by Allied soldiers rather than German soldiers. If the latter had caught him, he’d probably have been executed.

I really don’t think he has any hatred, but if he does your missing a portion of that definition. A bigot is “a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from his own,” which certainly is not true. “Bill” (I guess the quotes are due to the fact that his name is ironic or something) does not prejudge Catholicism as a matter of fact he went to Catholic school. What he said about the pope was a joke he also said he wears funny hats and “ladies he’s single.” I’m sure people know that the leader of the Catholic faith cannot be a Nazi, and most people watch the news and have heard about his participation in the Hitler youth. Maybe he just needs to get to know the people that make up the church(and complain about this ridiculous stuff instead getting angry with the organization of the church) and he will change his opinion on organized religion in general. I doubt it.
Ok i might be paranoid. but Kclad has six post all on here, all defending maher. make of it what you will but i know what i’m making on it

:hmmm: I’m definitely paranoid (😊) & I too wondered if he was here on a mission. Oh, well, I hope he comes back. Unfortunately, I can remember whole stretches of my life where I could not have cared less about the Catholic Church. Maybe the next time Bill spews forth hateful comments it will sound differently to him.

This stuff doesn’t bother me. I don’t care what this guy thinks. I feel sorry for someone that doesn’t believe in God due to they have no hope. Oh, about the cult comment. I drink the real blood of Christ, not Kool-Aid.

Grace and Peace,

I was so hurt by this attack against Our Holy Father, the Church, and the millions of devout clergy and religious who have been scandalized by this that I canceled my HBO subscription.

It is such a burden for us to carry. I know so many who have left the Church due to this and I find it so mean-spirited for Bill Maher to get millage out of this very very painful event in our history.

What really bugs me about these so-called comedians is that they attempt to get cheap laughs out of the suffering of actual people.

It is disgusting, to say the least.

This is a really good point. I have always looked at comments like this as hurting innocent priests & Catholics, but it must be really painful for the victims.

My grandmother used to say that making any person the “butt of a joke” was not humor, but was instead a form of cruelty. As I have matured, I have come to appreciate how right she was.
