Bill Maher Strikes Again

If we shall not say anything and act as if he is not saying anything then where shall we act and what shall we say if we are the church militant. We should be prayerfully militant, but is that all?
 
The Bible tells us we must speak and act. But we must speak the truth. Mr. Maher was a Catholic early on. It is unclear why he agrees with the idea that mocking religion and those who believe is OK. He calls religion “silly and dangerous.” Unless he can point out some gun-toting nuns, then his motivation is unclear.

I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT OUR CHURCH CAN STAND UP TO ANY CHALLENGES.

Atheism is rational to an athelist, and to deny that is short sighted.

So was Martin Luther rational to himself and many others.

To deny that our Church has sometimes been irrational in its choice of Bishops, priests and,nuns over the last few decades is not rational itself.

**The Church needs to be the leader in finding treatment programs that work for pedaphiles and come to understand sexuality more rationally **

It also isn’t rational to "blister"someone on here and then sign off with “Peace”.

Bill Maher is a comic; anyone who has follwed the big name comics of our time, Hacket, Carlin, etc etc. knows that they go after all the vulnerable who make big time mistakes, Catholic, or whatever.

Catholics who feel so bad about the Priest who supposedly bad mouthed Obama from the pulpit, NEED TO GET AHOLD OF THE SERMAN AND BE SURE OF WHAT WAS SAID.

Well Ed , we have seen “Religion” be very silly and very dangerous in our own times. Nobody should have to explain that.
The extermists in any faith are often physically dangerous.

As with anything, without proper criticism, the actions of any group, faith, military, political, etc can lead to horrors unspeakable.

Gun toting nuns? Well, Ed, I have listened to a large number of
Catholic faithful who have spoken of some pretty abusive nuns tho they didn’t carry weapons —ther than yard sticks, and their mouths.

One of these abusive nuns was transferred to my Diocese from another diocese with no punishment etc. Just one example.

Guns are not the only way we can hurt (kill) people, is it?
 
Is it hurt or kill? I had nuns all through Catholic school. All us kids loved our priests. My religious neighbors were wonderful role models. Was anyone perfect? No. But they showed self-restraint, they tried their best. And no, not everyone went to the same Church we did but we were a community with shared values.

I watched as that was slowly poisoned by a small group of outside agitators.

I’m aware how heavily atheism is being marketed today but it doesn’t offer much. That said, people don’t need anyone’s permission to believe or not believe.

Mr. Maher has downgraded the level of intelligent discussion in this country with his profanity and expressions of hedonism. He’s not helping and mocking religious people shows a disrespect for the honest attempts being made by the Pope for sincere interreligious dialogue.

Yeah, that popous blow-hard gets way more attention than he merits. I don’t get it. If you met this foul guy on the street, you wouldn’t give him a second thought and you’d probably roll yours eyes a lot while talking to him, yet if he’s on TV he’s everyone’s idol.

For the record though, he isn’t an atheist. He’s a Deist, like Al Franken and Thomas Jefferson (and I think George Washington). They believe that although God did create the world, he left it alone.

It was printed in the bulletin of his parish. It didn’t bad mouth
Obama. It simply stated that those who voted for him should go to confession before receiving communion. Catholic teaching is not in line with abortion, and it is no secret that Obama will advance availabity to and promotion of abortion. Thanks Fr. Newman for standing up for life and for teaching the Catholic Faith as a guardian of the truth. May we have many who follow in your footsteps and not do our Lord an injustice by their silence on these matters.
 
Yeah. He’s just an unfaithful athiest comedian who’s run out of gags and has to pick on tose who won’t retalhiate(think thats how you spell it) harshly.
I think it’s just said how in todays society people like this (with his social status) are allowed to put others down without being told to ease up.
Plus since he is almost the ‘CLASSIC ATHIEST’ he is labelling ALL athiests like this and giving them an even worse name.
Just sad, God have Mercy

Based on his comments, I don’t find his claim of being a Deist believable.

If Bill Maher is not an Athiest, he is doing a good imatation. His hate for the Catholic Church is plain. He was once even forced to issue an apology for telling a lie about Pope Benedict XVI on his show.

As for Bill Donahue, I stick to his written articles. They are usually credible, logical and enpointe. He is a poor public speaker/interview. He gets fired up and loses control of his emotions. The result is sounding like some sort of “religious Barney Fife”.

I didn’t even hear about that (I just mentally check out whenever there’s anything about that awful man; that jerk isn’t worth my annoyance). What did he say?

I’m surprised anyone was able to get him to make an apology.

Some years back, he was on Larry King and actually spoke pretty highly of Jesus and there being a God of love.

But you’re right – and if he believes in love so much, he wouldn’t be so averse to charity. It’s like he’s all over the map, as if his beliefs change schizophrenically. So, if he does believe in God, he doesn’t practise what he preaches. Major jerk.

But at least we’re getting an opportunity to still try to love someone who is totally against us; maybe in a funny way he’s a blessing. Sadly, I’m failing at this test at the Golden Rule, cause I simply can’t stand the man.

If he’s doing this because he believes it’s some grand crusade for future generations, the way he’s acting doesn’t exactly ensure a good legacy.

BTW, my bad, he did not ever apologize. I misread the later story. His apology instead was for a comment he made insulting retarded people, not for anything he said insulting Catholics.
 
Bill Maher… wow where to begin

Bill Maher is a shock jock kind of comedian, his job is to **** people off and they inadvertently advertise for him.
  1. Does he make fun of our faith? Yes he does
  2. Does he make fun of Protestants also? Yes he does
  3. Does he make fun of other Religions also? Yes he does
  4. Does he slam Catholics harder? Duh yes, and why because if he hit Islam as hard Extremists will get him (not regular Muslims) sorry but it’s not very often that a Priest blow himself up and kill others. and admittedly allot of Priest’s will tell you it has been a tough few years since the scandals.
So is it sad and hurtful to hear this stuff on TV? yes but as an American I would rather die then see his right to speak taken away from him. Hopefully one day he will come to the Church, until then what we should do is pray for him.

and it was on HBO so you did have to pay for the channel and then watch the program. Only so much anger I can have for someone who can get the same people he talks so badly about to watch his show. American Justis I guess, it’s like buying a CD to smash in protest. If you want to not be affected so badly here’s what I would do…
Cancel HBO and Show time and all the other SMUT channels (they play the same stuff all month and after dark it is just trash) now instead of watching though channels I want you either to watch EWTN or pray the rosary. Heck you can even talk to your kids or maybe read the bible to little johnny.

Personally this is as bad as me calling Play Boy Channel and telling them that the movie with the nun was an attack on my religion. If you pay for it then you are part of the problem.

Unless you cancel the channel’s and stop advertising him you are the problem.

Brave (not the word I would use, maybe Ballsy) aren’t suicidal. Who you gonna poke fun at the guy who blesses you or the guy who will kill your entire family and then you? Seems like an easy question.
