“It wasn’t a combat situation by any sense of the wording that I know,” Engberg said. “There were no people killed. He said that he saw troops fire into the crowd. I never saw that, and I don’t know anybody who did. And I was there on the scene.”

“What’s interesting is, not only did I not hear any shots, I didn’t see any ambulances. I didn’t see any tanks. I didn’t see any armored cars, all of the things that you would have expected to see had people been shot.”

O’Reilly provided documentation that backed up his claims. The only thing Engberg provided was the fact that he didn’t like O’Reilly and didn’t consider him to be a reporter I nonstory that has quickly disappeared other than in the imaginations of the far left

Somewhat like Chris Matthews then on MSNBC? Matthews continuously cuts off many of his guests, who are mostly, though not all, liberal, if they disagree even one iota with him, and sometimes even when they don’t disagree, because he appears to enjoy most hearing himself talk. But he can be entertaining at times.
Yep, Chris Matthews and O’Reilly operate in exactly the same space, just on different sides. I find Matthews to have a lot more contempt for social conservatives though. I’ve never heard O’Reilly treat pro-SSM, pro-choice, etc., people the way Matthews is scornful toward social conservatives.

Except more people watch O’Reilly in a day then watch Matthews in a year. Matthews is another one of those Catholics who places his political views before his faith .

Is there a reason why we care that Bill O’Reilly is lying about this?

I’m not the biggest fan of Catholic Fox news, but what is the big issue really?
No journalist is perfect.

Oreilly just ptoduced a contemoraneous article ftom the NYT that affirms what he said and contradicts what Enberg said.

Fortunately ORiley has contemporaneous letters and memos that prove what he said. This “witness” admits he doesn’t like O’Reilly and doesn’t consider O’Reilly to be a reporter
It would be easier if one had dates.and location.
Buenos Aires was not a war zone not even close. It is geographically very distant from Malvinas.
I was in my early 20 ties studying and working there as usual.
We were living under a Junta , there was much social discomfort ,our salaries were frozen , inflation so it is very possible that what he saw was not a war zone ,but indeed " manifestaciones" or vast number of people manifesting their discontent. If he saw something… Some were very hardly repressed ,yhough not massive shooting as it seems to be portraid. I do not know unless we check.dates and place.
In any case ,sombody who is not used to living this type of everyday life nor speak our language may find it confusing.
I do not know this reporter ,nor if he is honest or dishonest. Just giving a bit of context about march -april 1982.

Moreover , we received " comunicados " through a National Tv and radio channels where ebrything else was interrupted letting us know what was going on like the sinking of the Sheffield or the General Belgrano.
Our troops were very young. We sent them blankets and stuff in support , we never knew if they received them.
No. Buenos Aires was.not a war.zone , we were miles away from what was really going on much of which at least I ,learnt years later. And much tjrough UK channels as well decades later.

So he stretched the truth a little. Most men accept the lives they choose and are honest about their experiences. But some obviously are not. I guess it insults the war reporters who actually do put themselves at risk. But, Bill’s whole goal is self promotion. Everybody knows this and that he’s full of hot air. More of an entertainer, then a journalist after all. So, how much does his integrity have to do with anything. 🤷

Sorry ,I did not see this post ,Estesbob. I will go through the thread then to see if I find any primary sources.

Oreilly invited Endberg to come on his show He declined

Oh that proves it. If Enberg were telling the truth, he wouldn’t be afraid to go on the show and be attacked by Bill O’Reilly.

Again, what’s the big deal? Didn’t we all already know he was a liar when he vigorously said he would fight against the accusations of sexual harassment until she said she had tapes and he quietly settled?

In America, even if a criminal is convicted of one crime, they are not thereby considered guilty of any crime that their enemies can level at them.

This whole thread is a farce.

After cutting off the two pacifists who were on his program and not allowing them to finish their answer, Mr. O’Reilly himself said that he was obnoxious. Why would Mr. Endberg want to go on a program with an obnoxious interviewer who would cut you off and make faces as you tried to explain your position?

If a person is mot man enough to confront the person he is accusing face to face, there is no reason to take him all that seriously.

Falklands/Malvinas Islands, have more sheep than people I’ve been told.

Reporters report, indeed on wars, sometimes I will see a reporter on tv, he may be reporting on what ISIS is doing but he is reporting from Tel Aviv.

I think it is real hair-splitting to put down O’Reilly on these points.

And it was in 1982; about then. For all we know, this might be standard on what such journalists say.

And it was dangerous on these little islands.

Just as it doesn’t matter how dangerous it is in the Islamic State when assessing the danger to reporters in Tel Aviv, neither does it matter how dangerous it was in the Falklands, because O’Reilly wasn’t there.

Back in Buenos Aires, it may well have been dangerous in the period after the war when the government was falling. But it’s a real stretch to call riot police “hostiles”. They may be hostile to you, it may be dangerous for you, but they’re not really “hostiles” because it’s not really a battlefield.

I went through all the links in the thread.
The closest detail as to date and event.according to O Reilly would be post 42.
He was definitely not in a war zone .
Army or police.chasing people during "manifestaciones "were not uncommon ,but that was not combat.

I.d say there is nothing else for.me ,to.add out of respect for those who died on Malvinas.

From what you say here, it sounds like there is a problem with Mr. O’Reilly’s story.
