Birth control in certain circumstances?

Okay, the OP should get a second opinion before embarking on a therapy that involves a drug that produces birth defects.

Other than that, we are speculating. They can’t use ABC, because it might not work and is against Church teaching. They can’t use barrier methods because they are not 100% effective and go against Church teaching.

That leaves total abstention or using NFP with very conservative rules, if the signs allow it.
How about not taking the abortifacient meds they describe and trust God?

God will do as He wills. If he wants to give the OP a child, he will take care of her. If she trusts Him, and does things naturally, as He made all humanity to do, He will provide what is needed in grace and temporal matters.

Don’t worry about money, sweety. God will always give you what is needed.

If you’re scared of not having money, go to your local Catholic Church and ask for help from Vincent de Paul. Also, there are Catholic and ecumenical Christian pregnancy centers that will be able to help you to care for your child with finances and free diapers, clothing, baby formula, etc.

Believe me, I counsel women outside an abortion clinic. There is a lot of help, medically, financially, and in material items. 🙂 There are even places where people will provide temporary housing. God will always take care of you. I work with these charitable places. Don’t be too proud to ask for help and be open to life. So many women are afraid or too proud to ask. They believe they will inconvenience someone. That’s what they’re there for! God puts people there to help you all along the way, just like he puts you there to help others. I am always awestruck by what He does.

Be open to life! God always provides. He won’t give you a gift you can’t handle.

The thing is she might genuinely need this medicine. I am talking about the pills the doctor wants her to take not the birth control btw. Of course she should still get a second opinion and make sure she doesn;t have other options. But in the end that particular medicine might be her only choice. And if she needs to take this medcine I definately donlt think having a child while she is on it would be a good idea.

You do know that there are biological factors at work here, don’t you? God does not just “give” people children out of the blue. Couples act as co creators with God, cooperating with the biology that God created.

It would be totally irresponsible to take a drug that causes birth defects and then just let what happens happen.

There are other drugs. There are other doctors. Second opinions w/o the advice explained from the first doctor are always best. There are a lot of meds that docs only think you genuinely need. I, unfortunately, found this out the hard way. A great many docs give certain meds as a CYA tactic.

I’m a geneticist, so yes.

He does. Every time a couple has sex, God must be there for the couple to conceive. The couple does not by themselves create the children. The children are not their creation. They are God’s creations. The parents only take part in cooperating with God in his creative plans. Think the Virgin Birth, God obviously doesn’t need us. They don’t cooperate with the biology(study of life). They are the “organisms”/“life forms”, so to speak. They are God’s creatures, not gods. God gives life. We don’t.

I never said to take the drug. I said don’t take it. It’s more than likely abortifacient if it causes birth defects. Only a toxin would be able to cause a birth defect. How many babies died from the drug? I’m willing to bet that the lucky ones who survived were the ones with birth defects.

Are you saying then you’d be okay married to a woman who can never have sex with you? If you are, I’d say that’s pretty rare.
Perhaps “pretty rare,” but not impossible…

My wife and I have been married for more than 24 years. We did not have intercourse for the first 6 years or the most recent 10 years, leaving 8 years of “rather infrequent” in between. It hasn’t been easy or what we planned, but we are still very much in love and never considered breaking up our marriage over it.

Praying for us all,

This could be the subject of of a thread of it’s own. I think that we can be cocreators with God at a time or a situation that He wouldn’t approve of (fornication, adultery, etc). So, there’s an aspect of this that we can misuse our ability to be fertile.
