birth control

Being Catholic doesn’t make me naive, people are going to live their lives without concern for their souls or the responsibility of their sexuality.

However, I think the Pill should be banned just because its closer to poision then anything else. Plus, it can be act by preventing implantation of the new life, thus, being a drug that kills and so morally repugnant. I also want to see the IUD banned, again, because it works by prevention of implantation.

Life begins at conception. Pregnancy begins at implantation. Just because somethign prevents pregnancy, doesn’t mean its not killing a human being.

The Church says that contraceptives used for the purpose of preventing procreation is gravely contrary to natural law. Therefore, for that purpose, we are not to approve of birth control.

However, the Church does state that if a pill or procedure is necessary to save the mother’s life or prevent her from having medical issues, it is acceptable if that is it’s main purpose. Even if the medicine or procedure has the unfortunate side effect of contraception, it is not morally wrong.

Basically, let’s say a woman is diagnosed with a medical issue that can be treated with a pill that is normall used for contraceptive purposes. It is perfectly allowable for the woman to be prescribed said pill, as the purpose is not contraception, but treatment for an illness.

No, we cannot force all of our morals on others, Universal Natural Rights should be trampled on lightly, otherwise you have an unjust Govt.

I think we can allow the Pill to be used as long as it’s only for the medical purposes of actually protecting the mother’s life (by helping to treat bleeding in the reproductive system, for example)

What, the morals of God? Obviously our Lord should mind His own business eh…

Do you think it should be illegal? Tell why or why not.
it was illegal in many states until the late 60s, early 70s. speakers who came to our campus to speak to students about the pill in 1968 were arrested for violating 3 state laws, one against promoting bc, one against providing samples, and one against speaking about it to minors (under 21 at that time). At least one of the team was a doctor I don’t remember anything about the rest except the event seemed, even in that climate of campus protest, to be staged for the purpose of provoking arrest and the resulting publicity. Message seems not to have gotten through to my class, at least 1/3 of whom dropped out before graduation due to pregnancy.

I do not want to give government that much control over our lives. The word of God is clear that bc is not to be used. Do we need big government to re-issue this declaration of our Church? Would it make a real difference anyway?

Our Church has spoken on this through the encyclical of 1968 - Humana Vitae. It caused a rupture among the catholics in this country. Many left the church. Many that remain use bc anyway, without due cause such as a valid medical reason. These same catholics walk up the aisle and receive the Eucharist as if they are worthy. May God have mercy on their souls!

Since it is legal, and many use it, those that use bc will reproduce less. Over time, what will be the impact? Over 10 generations say.

How would you like it if you weren’t Catholic and had to follow Catholic rules? What if you were forced to follow the rules of Hinduism by law?

lol, are you suggesting that the people that use birth control will have less kids, so in the end the better people that don’t use birth control will have more kids, so the people that use birth control will be weeded out?

We can’t force people to subscribe to our morals, nor should we even try. It is our job to show them Christ and let Christ change them.

Besides, we can’t forget that the church allows the use of “the pill” for legetimate medical reasons. Medicine should never be banned because it is commonly abused, otherwise we’d have no painkillers. At all.

Prior to the late 1960s and early 1970s, as puzzleannie says, ABC was illegal. However, the movement towards making it legal had started long before that. In 1930, none of the mainline Churches allowed their members to use ABC. Perhaps “allowed” is not the correct term; all of them held that it was immoral.

Gradually, over a long period of time, the Churches have lost their voice in the political square. The Lambeth Conference was the moral breaking point in 1930 (Anglican/ Episcopalian) which was the first mainline Church to allow ABC to be used in the family unit for spacing children. By the time Humanae Vitae was issued, no mainline Church except the Catholic Church allowed it. The immediate reaction to HV was outright rejection by numerous theologians, priest/confessors, bishops and people in the pews. and about as rapidly as the mainline Churches lost their way, secularism in law moved forward. Now, any Church is sidelined in terms of morality and ethics; see the Moral Majority and look where we are today. The press is openly vicious to anyone or any Church with a morality following the 10 Commandments. The immediate charges of prejudice and attempting to force one’s (private) morality on anyone else are some of the first charges to fly.

Unless and until there is a change and the Churches can speak with a moral voice (instead of a moral Tower of Babylon) and the silent majority is silent no more, the laws will not change. All the wanting, wishing, hoping and commentary to the contrary, we are in a society that is sliding farther and farther to the secular end of the spectrum. One simply needs to observe Europe where this has been perfected far beyond where we are.

The only hope is that more evidence will be brought forth concerning the damage the Pill does, and the damage abortion does; the evidence is out there and a few courageous researchers have been willing to speak the truth. But the truth is being drowned out by greed, lust, anger and secualrism.

Practically and factually they are being weeded out. The birth rate in most European countries is below replacement; one of the reasons for the Islamization of Eurpope. What they could not accomplish between the 800s and the 1400s Islam is now accomplishing, not by warfare but by fecundity and the not-so-gradual population increase in Europe.

And as for the United States, if it were not for the influx of two main groups - the Hispanics, and secondly the Vietnamese, the US birth rate would also be below replacement.

No, I do not. Not as a general concept. That would outlaw NFP, and probably the communication or teaching of information about a woman’s natural cycle. It is preposterous to outlaw telling a woman about her body.

No, I don’t. We can’t force someone to see God’s will. They have their own free will, and if they choose to use that will in a way contrary to God, all we can do is pray for them, and continue living by example and word.

A lot less than ten generations. Europe, America, Japan and other western nations are essentially aborting and birth controlling themselves out of existance.1/3rd of children since Roe have been aborted. You cannot wipe out 1/3rd of a generation and expect things to be dandy. The older generation is living longer, so you will have 2/3rds of a generation supporting 3/3rds of the generation in their retirement. This will mean higher taxes and result in what we are already seeing now, people putting off having children, and having smaller families, thus continuing the abortion trend, which will, of course, upset the natural balance of the generations.

Its only logical now that we see euthanasia becoming more wide spread, and more talked about, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw something like a mandatory euthanasia age in a generation’s time. There’s just not enough children being born, so, that means not enough future workers or tax payers.

The wages of sin is death, and our societies are dying.

Do you think it should be illegal? Tell why or why not.
No, it should not be illegal.

First of all, the rules of the Catholic Church should only govern Catholics who submit to the Church of their own free will. Those of other denominations (who do allow birth control) and those who don’t follow any religous laws have the right to govern their own bodies without interference from a Church they don’t follow. I do not want to be governed by another religions laws, so why would I inflict the laws of my religion on non-followers? Laws should not be based on religious convictions. The Church should regulate compliance within the Church, not by making laws based on their teachings to be obeyed by the masses without their will.

Second of all, many women need ABCs for various medical reasons, and if birth control is made illegal, women who need them will have to jump through hoops to get them, if they can get them. This will lead to denials of authorizations based on how scrupulous an adjuster is. Also, who will regulate it? The State? The Church? Will we need a letter from our pastor or bishop to take the Pill to treat endometriosis, hemorrhagic bleeding during menustration, persistent ovarian cysts, persisten uterine fibroids? How will our medical documentation be processed to push through approvals for women who need them? Will they pass around from the Church to the Government? No, ABCs should not be make illegal just because certain religion organizations say so. Medication prescription is between a doctor and a patient. Anything further should be initiated by the patient, not the pastor she lives closest to.

Third of all, making birth control illegal will just force women who want it to get it illegally, where it is not regulated and where dealers will exploit women for financial gain because women WILL buy them somehow.

We can already see the impact of population control.

Social Security is broke because boomers aborted, controlled, and avoided pregnancy so much so that their offspring aren’t numerous enough to support them. This trend is only continuing. I know that every cent paid into SS is money I can kiss completely goodbye. I’ll never see it again.

You cannot wipe out 1/3rd of a generation and expect things to be dandy.
I agree with you here. Aborting 1/3rd of each generation, plus widespread contraception, pretty much assures demographic suicide, and guarantees an economic depression.
