First off, I am sure you can go to any country in the world and take a picture of the poor there to support your agenda.
My wife is Filipina. She is from Cebu. Cebu is 2nd most populous city in the Philippines, behind Manilla. Estimates of people living there is maybe 5,000,000. My wife is one of the lucky ones with her family having property which generates income. She is fluent in Bisaya, Tagalog and English and speaks a smattering of Mandarin and Spanish. (That’s 5 languages) She has a college degree in business and her father put 5 children through college.
The city has it’s “good” side and it’s “bad” sides. It is a college and fishing town and many people survive by fishing all night and then having to sell their fish in the open markets all day. The college students work hard to help pay for college and maybe be able to provide for their families.
As to poverty, yeah it is pretty bad in some spots, but I have seen Mexican spots that are worse, as a matter of fact parts of Cebu are actually nicer than parts of Atlanta I grew up in.
But the wonderful part of Cebu is: you can walk to probably 10 Catholic Churches from their house their. St Rosario and St Nino being the biggest. St Nino has at least 12 services every Friday and there is always someone in the Adoration Chapel. The people of Cebu may not have money but they are the friendliest, kindest, nicest and holiest people I have ever met. My wife and I fully intend on retiring there and helping these poor people at either St Nino or maybe the Missionaries of the Poor.
The poor are just another way we can show God we love him by helping them. Every child born is a gift, a treasure, a blessing. Everyone is hope for a new day. God loves everyone of them and contraception is a big sin against God.
