I was wondering how men and women from different generations, have experienced and internalized “women’s rights.”

I’m around 50 years old. I grew up during the sexual revolution of the early 60s, the legalization of every type of abortion on demand in the 70s, and radical feminism during the 80s.

The radical feminism that surrounded us approached man hating. This type of feminism went way beyond equal pay for equal work. Words commonly used in college literature included “male dominance, subjection of women, rape, reproductive rights (ABC and abortion) pay inequality, sexual discrimination, etc.” All - really negative connotations about what existed in male and female relationships.

Hopefully that attitude between men and woman isn’t still being taught on college campuses.

I’ve briefly read articles about how radical feminism (particularly ABC) was harmful not only for women, but that it was equally harmful on men and their development - particularly concerning marriage and childraising.

I was just wondering how generations have been effected by this “battle between the sexes”?

According to researchers like Dr. Joseph Nicolosi (Catholic) and Joe Dallas (Protestant), many, if not most cases of homosexuality manifest themselves in homes with domineering or feminist mothers in the early developmental years of life.

Both men have counseled many people with similar stories “back” (for lack of a better term) to heterosexuality. In Dallas’s case - he himself lived a homosexual lifestyle before coming to God and changing his life. After counseling and learning where his behavior came from - he changed his life around. He is married with a family and is an author of books on the subject, as is Dr. Nicolosi.

Exactly why can’t we complain about rape? The majority of rapes are committed by a close family member/friend of the victim. There is evidence that police do not take accusations seriously. Guess what percentage of rapes lead to a conviction? 2.6% in the UK!

Reproductive rights is a tricky one. It is easy for someone to say that female fertility is the one thing that men cannot directly control, therefore they enforce rules that enable them to control it. But those aren’t my words.

Secondly, if you are the type of person who gets this riled up over what the experts have to say on the matter - maybe a debate/discussion forum is not the best place for you.

I’m a man and am all for women’s rights in every aspect. Without those “radical” feminists, not as many women would have higher aspirations in the workforce today, and society would continue to chug along in its complacency. It takes dynamic leaders to shake up the status quo at times, and this applies to civil rights as much as women’s rights. Of course, those in power are alarmed, because they may not even realize they are being oppressive. Change is always frightening (on the part of both victimizers and victims), even change for the better.

I’m also a psychologist and psychology professor, and I can assure you that the so-called “experts” you mention are in the distinct minority on this subject. Most gay people cannot be “brought back” to heterosexuality. Those who may claim to become “heterosexual” were, and probably still are, bisexual.

In my places of work, women with the same skills and education, who do the same job as long as men; get paid the same as men.

I am curious because the church does not openly endorse reparative therapy and only urges homosexuals of either gender to live chaste lives.

This is true, that I why I want to see the studies for myself…not that I can disprove them, I am not qualified to do so. Its outside my field of expertise. I do believe that bisexuality is the root of many homosexual to heterosexual “conversions”.

Yes, I agree that in many jobs today there is equal pay. But why do you suppose that is? People such as feminists fought for it, just as unions fought for safe working conditions and worker equality. But we have not achieved total equality yet and the fight is not over. Your other statement suggests that there is a correlation between successful women who have careers and unsuccessful women as mothers. The research does not support your statement. Even if it did, does that mean women should not strive to be successful, in your view? Are you suggesting that women’s professional success is ruining the family? And what is wrong with the other woman you mention who had “only” one child in her late 30’s? Plenty of women have one child later in life even if they don’t have careers.
