That is for sure!
I hope the Catholic church will survive this because this is what happened with
the Anglican Communion and Episcopal church.
The Pope will need to be very strong to hold our Church together.
Coming from the Episcopal church/Anglican Communion - it was very hard to watch
what happened.
We need to pray for the Pope and the Catholic Church everyday.
Yes - I agree. Bishops are disagreeing on major things.
I think of the Arian Crisis of the fourth century.
Almost all the bishops fell into heresy and the pope himself wavered.
God raised up a great hero, St. Athanasius, who had to suffer a lot of persecution and exile - but the heresy was overthrown and the true Faith of the Church was victorious.
What did the faithful do when the bishops lost the faith?
Almost everybody was pressured to become Arian by the political powers.
But a large number of the faithful resisted the bishops who had accepted false teaching. The rule that guided them was that there was only one Deposit of Faith - the Sacred Tradition handed down. Nobody had the authority to create new doctrine.
Arius was an innovator - a progressive, if you will.
Today it’s the same. God does not ask us to follow new doctrines. The Deposit of Faith is closed. Nobody, not even a Pope can create new doctrine.
Galatians 1:8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!
So, what was handed down to us by Sacred Tradition, and the condemnation of homosexuality is part of that, is what we adhere to.
False teachers will come and go. Even bishops.
Our task is to stay in the Church. That’s where God’s promises are.
