Bishop Carlson and the Saginaw Diocese

Hello! Since we are over the limit on our other thread, I thought we should keep the Dialog open!

There have been many posts over the past year, some good, some not so good. The positive is that we have been able to discuss the good Bishop and where he is at and where he came from.

There have been those who have spoken postive and negative about Bishop Untener the past bishop of Saginaw. God Rest his soul.

The direction of this thread will hopefully be one of love and kindness as we discuss our values in regards to the parishes and people of the Diocese of Saginaw, and where she is going. (church is always a she).

God Love us all as we keep our discussions going! Isn’t it amazing that we have talked so much that we have to start a second thread? Praise Jesus for that! We have been going since December/Early January of 2005. That must be some forum record!
 
so count me wrong, but it seems Bishop is hanging out at St. Stans in Bay City more? Or is it just me?

I don’t know, but I do know that there is a wonderful pastor there and a very large parish.

I questioned on the last thread whether anyone had the Rosary CD done by Bishop Carlson.

Not a member of his diocese, I still wanted to support his strong and much needed efforts to increase vocation… the purpose of the CD.

I can only encourage you to support the effort… $7 each was not so bad a deal (free postage too!)

It replaced the Rosary CD in the car by Fr Straub (no offense meant Father)
 
Mr. S- i have 3 copies of the ones he did here in South DAkota- he did one in 1995-1996(a tape) and again in 2004, he did a tape and CD (same recording) and i have the 95/96 tape and a tape and CD of the 04 recording.

Very holy rosary to pray to! I may just hafta order the Saginaw one as well!

Singerlady, I hear only great things about St. Stan’s myself! I cannot wait to come visit and tour this diocese and meet y’all!

I was confirmed there…the pastor of yesteryear was the bishop of Lansing for 20 some years.

Lovely parish, they sing a little too much in polish for my taste
 
St Stan’s has had a “Rosary Triduum” every year - think its put on by the members of The Blue Army. Always a special prayer time and chance to hear invited Priests.

Is this new? I hadn’t been aware that St. Agnes was doing Eucharistic Adoration. Is this a one-time deal or will it be done every Wednesday at this time? Please inform.

I know some here think that Adoration has very little to do with how orthodox and healthy a parish is, but its been my experience that when parishes offer Adoration, everything else tends to flourish.

Glad to hear of this time with our Lord being offered!

… IF, big IF, the Adoration receives full support from the priest(s) in the parish.
 
I do not know how often we will be able to have Eucharistic Adoration but maybe it will become well attended and held at least once per month. I have to drive 80 miles round trip to attend Holy Mass there so I am not able to be more involved in the parish although we are members. I am definitely planning on the 22nd though. Fr. Jim Hast is the pastor at St. Agnes, he is of the Capuchin Order from Wisconsin, a very good priest!

a new pastor (from last June) in the Lansing Diocese, has started slow with Adoration… so as to not “shock” the old timers.
Adoration between Sunday masses, and on 1st Fridays to begin with.

However, one old timer who claimed to be a priest for about 8 years back in the 60’s, was among the first to escape the parish and its “new” ways when Adoration began. How sad.

The Gospel injunction is “whenever you do this for the least of my brothers you do it for me…”

So, wouldn’t social justice be bringing Jesus to the people?

Adoration simply doesn’t cut it…it’s an important form of prayer…but prayer has to be turned into action

I am actually at a loss for words with your comment… a first in quite a while for me…
 
The sorrow of it is that actual efforts have been made to diminish the importance of the Holy Eucharist. Thats why you can still find “mystery bread” used at Mass - the tabernacle is ignored and forgotten off in a “separate” chapel - teaching not to kneel or genuflect - describing Eucharistic Adoration as a boring, waste of time - something only practiced by trads and kneelers.

I have a very difficult time remaining charitable in return to those who disparage the Holy Eucharist and Our Blessed Mother. These fundamental elements of our Holy Faith are what the heretics chip away at first. The tactics are “you can experience Jesus just as well by serving the poor or greeting your neighbor”; confuse the subject and throw in something else from left field.

Another tactic is to claim to be teaching the Faith by stating “We don’t worship Mary, she is no better than any other saint. The rosary is boring and a better method of prayer is to sit comfortably and just picture a TV screen where you and Jesus meet in the park, sit down and have a picnic”.

These methods are more sophisticated than obvious and have been taught at length to Liturgical administrators, etc.

The most powerful weapons against this rot is Adoration of the Holy Eucharist and praying the Rosary of the Blessed Mother.

So someone has to explain to me why we can get up in a lather over tabernacle locations but not get up in a lather over ignoring the poor.
