The Bishop should tell Fr. Jenkins that he should retract the invitation…now that would be taking action. Not showing up is not much of a statement at all…imo–very weak stuff.

Let me ask this: instead of asking “What would Jesus do,” why don’t we ask a more simple question, “what would someone like Father Corapi do?”

The Bishop has limited control over the actions of Fr. Jenkins, because Fr. Jenkins is a member of a pontifical right religious congregation (The Congregation of the Holy Cross.) Although we would need a canonist to get a definite answer to this question (because the involvement of the university makes things more complicated), it would seem that any action would have to come from the Congregation of the Holy Cross superiors, or the Vatican itself.

In this case, the Bishop may have done all that he could.

What would Fr. Corapi do? As a religious, Fr. Corapi would undoubtedly understand the complexity of the situation, due to the complicated lines of authority drawn between dioceses and the religious institutes in them.

Father Corapi would not have invited Obama to speak, so it would not have been an issue.

Fair enough…in addition to calls, emails and petitions to Fr Jenkins, how 'bout letting the Province and order leaders know how we feel?

God bless Bishop D’Arcy. I encourage everyone to read the link the OP posted. The last line really struck me:

**“Let us ask Our Lady to intercede for the university named in her honor, that it may recommit itself to the primacy of truth over prestige” **

Amen to that.

Sad, he may have missed an opportunity to change a few minds. Maybe even executive minds

Bishop D’Arcy says "Even as I continue to ponder in prayer these events, which many have found shocking, so must Notre Dame. Indeed, as a Catholic University, Notre Dame must ask itself, if by this decision it has chosen prestige over truth.

Tomorrow, we celebrate as Catholics the moment when our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, became a child in the womb of his most holy mother. Let us ask Our Lady to intercede for the university named in her honor, that it may recommit itself to the primacy of truth over prestige."

Thank God Holy Mary didn’t listen to President Obama and his kind who would have told her to have an abortion (TO MURDER THE BABY JESUS) because the “mistake” (JESUS) would have caused her personal hardship and a loss of her “right to privacy and her right to choose” ( the RIGHT TO CHOOSE TO MURDER BABY JESUS IN HER WOMB!!!)

God Bless Bishop D’Arcy!!!

Pray for Father John Jenkins, CSC. Pray for him so that he may not cooperate in the grave evil of abortion. Pray to our holy Mother Mary that she will intercede and give Fr. Jenkins, CSC the courage to rescind the invitation and to realize that President Obama supports those who have murdered 50 million US babies for $$$$$$$$!!

Pray for all of those who support the murders of innocent babies in the name of “CHOICE?”

ND alumni, please make your voice heard loud and clear. Do not support a University that has “chosen prestige over truth” as Bishop D’Arcy so eloquently stated.

Jesus told us, " "Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’ Mt 7:21-23.

We will all have to stand in front of Jesus one day and be judged for our actions! I am a horrible sinner and all I can say is “Mercy”, but I will not have to answer for the murder of 1 BILLION babies worldwide due to abortion!!

"but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Mt 19:14

Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, Ora Pro Nobis Peccatoribus!

The Bishop may not be able to do anything to stop the Priest, yet the Bishop can publicly call upon the Priest to retract the invitation.

Lost in all of this is the fact that the pro-life Prof. Mary Ann Glendon, former ambassador to the Vatican, will also be on the podium at commencement. She is the winner of the Laetare Medal, the oldest and most prestigious award given to a Catholic in America.

I hope she gives Obama a piece of her brilliant mind and well-formed Catholic social conscience. Should be interesting.

Bishop D’Arcy was the only Bishop in Boston who stood tall in the sex abuse scandals. He is a great churchman, and a native of my now-suppressed parish, Our Lady of the Presentation in Brighton.

Concerning Mary Ann Glendon, she taught Obama at Harvard Law School. If only law professors applied rulers to knuckles…

We can only hope…

Well, the Bishop could have made a fool of himself, a fool for the sake of Christ, by doing something Simple: Say a mass at the time of the ceremony and preach a sermon telling Notre Dame where they went wrong. As for Corapi, he knows the score, about worldy priests who refuse to preach the Gospel.
