The judge ruled that charges would not be dropped and that the Bishop and his Diocese would stand trial. This seems to be the first time, setting a precedence, for Bishops and their administrative offices to be charged in a criminal offense in the way they handled sex abuses by their clergy. The trial goes forward in September. I really wonder what will happen in other American dioceses as a result of this. It does seem to change the rules for prosecution.
