A nice article from Amy Wellborn today about an up and coming bishop who apparently is “shepherding”…

“…Bishop Finn said that whatever adult education programs are developed after Sasso’s study, they should be sensitive to the busy lives lay Catholics lead, and be portable to parishes in the diocese…”

“…Bishop Finn said the adult education program will have components that are short in duration, and will be deeply rooted in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, both of which encompass 2,000 years of church tradition…”

Of course what everyone’s all blogged-up about is the fact that Bishop Finn has dropped the columns of Fr. Richard McBrien from the diocesan paper.

Father McBrien likes to stir the pot," Bishop Finn said. "He approaches things with a certain skepticism and cynicism. You can get that in a lot of places, so go get it somewhere else.

“We need clear expressions of the meaning of faith, why we believe and how we can inspire each other,” he said. “We’ve got to give people hope and direction, and we don’t have a lot of time and space (in the newspaper) to do that. I think we can do a whole lot better.”

Our new Bishop Finn ROCKS! 👍 It has been non stop working to change the things that have slid down the slippery slope here. 48 hours after he took the helm…heads ROLLED! He has already held the first EVER Corpus Christi procession in downtown kc. Two conferences that were packed with great speakers and teaching that is bar non Catholic with a capital “C:”
Tim Staples was one…at our great conference last week. ❤️

OH! Yeah! The Lib’s were in HIGH gear dissing him for immeadiately cutting O’Brien from the Key! Made me smile no end. 🙂

And if you turn the page…it get’s even better.

New Directives He has been taking notes and now he is lowering the boom. Makes me smile even more.

Another element that has been a matter of church law for some time and now has been reinforced by the newer documents and specified in the bishops’ decree has to do with the use of proper and noble vessels for Communion. The recent decree reemphasized the requirement that the chalice, Communion cups, and ciboria for holding and distributing the Body and Blood of our Lord, be unbreakable and of some precious metal. The decree explicitly prohibits the use of glass and ceramic vessels. Because we realize that the provision of new vessels in many places takes more time than the changes in rubrics or actions, and involves a cost, the bishops’ decree allowed several months to complete the change in vessels. It does require all parishes and chapels to follow this directive as soon as possible. Parishes that find it impossible to implement by Oct. 31, must request and receive in writing a specific extension. Parishes that are able to make the change immediately are required by church law to do so.

Bishop Finn has been the answer to my prayers- and he has been the answer to the prayers of many of my friends as well. He has only been in charge since late May (or early June- somewhere around then)- but he has already done great things- including getting rid of Fr. McBrien’s awful column, and leading the Corpus Christi procession- a memory I will treasure forever. God bless him!

Yes, it did:

"I recommend that parish liturgical commissions, as well as all the faithful, continue to study them carefully and assist in their faithful implementation. The directives are intended to deepen our awareness of the great mysteries that are at the center of our life as Christians. They remind us that the Eucharist is never the property of any single person (bishop, priest, or layperson!) or any local community. "

Our liberal Catholic Key is reeling from the ax effect… 😃 No more McBrien…now his spot is filled with solid columns from great apologist’s each week. And not one blathering Editors column to be found…hee! Haw! Loving it!
