Cool! Please do!The writing desk of Bishop Fulton Sheen is in the office of a nearby church. Sometime, if I have a chance Iâll snap a pic of it and post it.
Lift Up Your Heart
&
Life of Christ
are very good books.
Thanks for the pictures Contemplative. I wonder how we could get some provenance?
Iâm not sure how I should go about it. The word in the parish office is that this was Bishop Sheenâs desk. I donât much like it being used the way it is but that is just my opinion. What more can I do?
I think it would be great to have met him. It mightâve changed my whole life. I know he has in some ways already, just from seeing him on tv and from some of his quotes.
I wonder if he was his true self on TV. Was he much different when not behind a camera?
Hey all!
What is your personal favorite quote of Bishop Sheenâs, and why? Iâve already posted mine in about post # 10 up top.
Dominus vobiscum,
I donât have any particular quotes. I read Lift Up Your Heart when I was an adolescent. Reading this book forever changed my life. Fulton Sheen described letting go of the Ego & I to reach the Divine. This made sense to me and changed my life.
I just love Bishop Sheen. I had the privilege of meeting him briefly, when he was the Bishop of the Rochester diocese. I was in my âmispent youthâ at the time, but I was asked if I would like to hear him speak. So I attended mass with a family friend.
Afterwards, she somehow got his attention, & the next thing I knew, a priest was leading me over to him. (Remember, I am not even Catholic, & at this point, I was barely even Christian at all, except nominally). He spoke very briefly to me. I was blown away. I tell people that, as far as I am concerned, I knew he was a saint right then!! Holiness just seemed to be all around him.
Anyhow, later that same week, I got a HUGE box from the Rochester diocese. I was like, âWhat isthis???â When I opened it, he had sent me copies of all his books!! I really think that reading them is one of the reasons that I straightened myself up, & started working at Christianity again. If he had tried to convert me or something, I would have rebelled!! But he sent BOOKS!! I LOVE to read!!! So I read them all, over & over again!
What a great manâŚI think maybe I need to get that stack of books outâŚI would love to read them again. Especially âThe Worldâs First Loveâ, which is a wonderful, wonderful book about the Virgin Mary! If any of you havenât read it, you seriously do not know what you have missed!!!
(And I still donât know how he knew where to send them to me!! Maybe our friend gave him the address???)
