Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport has joined Cardinal Timothy Dolan in criticizing an America Magazine editorial on the Obama administration’s mandate that contraceptives, sterilization, …

Booyah!

America was wrong (insidiously so) when they gave a pulpit for decades to the contraception rationalizers. No wonder they find this no big deal, even though it goes well beyond contraception and into direct abortion.

I thought Jesuits were supposed to be the creme of the crop in reasoning skills?

I have met some amazing Jesuit priests, but I don’t understand where their view on certain issues is coming from. Many Jesuit led universities and colleges also suffer from their deviation from the faith.

It’s a little frightening to see the intelligentsia departing from truth. I think we call it heresy.

I think we call it standard operating procedure. It simply amazes me that the Jesuit spectrum ranges from people like Robert Spitzer, Mitchell Pacwa and Joseph Fessio on one side and America magazine on the other. You’d think one group would eject the other.

I have never understood.

I’m glad the bishops are exposing the lies of people representing themselves as the Church.

That can be very confusing to the person in the pew, or the non-Catholic looking in.

The bishops are the leaders of the Church. Not the Jesuit magazine. Not the theologian/law professor from Notre Dame. Funny how they both portray the bishops as being too stupid to understand true Catholicism.

Actually, God seems to like to confound them with the simple and humble. The more they look to themselves for wisdom, the more foolish they become. The more they look to God for wisdom, the wiser they become. Very Biblical.

👍

Never thought of it that way!

Not uncommon however, a minority. And the church itself does act when need be, most recent with Bl JP-II. However, this isn’t the case today which also doesn’t mean a few individuals still linger. There will always be those who go against the grain for whatever reason, none good.

These Jesuits hearken us back to the Pharisees (clerical intelligencia) who tried to entrap Christ by using complex webs of subversive language hurled at Him with malicious intent. Our Lord Jesus, being incarnate wisdom, confounded them each and every time.

Father George Rutler is a genuine intellectual, but in him one finds the beautiful humility and obedience of the true disciple of Christ. We need to have more like him in the clerical ranks at this time when the lay faithful cry out to be given guidance born of a crystalline simplicity and uniformity. Dear God, give us more holiness, and far less worldliness, in our clerics…Amen .

A dear friend of mine (now deceased) once told me…“There are two camps of Jesuits, the orthodox and the heretics.” I do remember also Blessed John Paul called them out and pretty much told them to “shape up or ship out.” It would be just lovely if Papa Benedict would do likewise.🙂

The whole thing can be summed up by** PRIDE**: the first and worst capital sin.

Servant of God Father John Hardon S.J.: Pray for the Jesuits!!!
And the sooner he`s canonised, the better!

Welcome to CAF! 🙂
Thankfully, all posters on this thread are in agreement; but thats not always the case; as you would have noticed if youve been observing for a while. 😃
Sometimes: a battleground!

I would also recommend the book, “The Jesuits” by Malachi Martin. Some may not hearken to the author or his style, but this particular book is crammed full of verifiable facts, names and documentation. Sad to say, it’s not a pretty picture.

Careful Tigg, just mentioning Malachi Martin’s name could invoke censure. Talk about a controversial Catholic figure, wow! Say what you will about him, but he was a man of tremendous scholarship and extreme temerity. He was also a person of great perception. A flawed genius.

I always wondered about his private audience with Pope John Paul II that occurred later in his life (it would have been nice to have been a fly on that wall). It always seemed interesting to me that, despite his propensity for controversy, the Church always allowed him certain priestly privileges. That fact alone says something about the man; that he was a person of some note, and not easily dismissed.
