Well, considering that Father Martin is the editor-at-large of America Magazine, this article is quite biased. I have not read Martin’s book. I did read his book The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything, and I heard him speak my freshman year at my Jesuit University.
We all know that he is member of the left-wing in the Church and that he has been speaking out about homosexuality and his desire for redefining the language for a long time. It is true that we can do better about saying that we love all people and that God meets you where you are. However, Martin just doesn’t want to explain the intrinsic disordered nature of homosexual behavior. In addition, he fails to realize the need for us to not remain where we are when we meet God, but to grow and change and be transformed into the image of Christ. As Matthew Kelly says, “God meets us where we are, but He loves us too much for us to stay that way.” As such, I think that it is good that his speaking arrangement at the Theological College at Catholic University was canceled. The Church has to cling to the Truth and not let itself be blinded by false theology.
May God bless you all!
