A Bishop Morlino supporter just sent me this link with a note to say we should flood the site with supportive posts – yet the article is dated April 3, 2009…

If this is what passes for journalism at UW-Madison – yikes!

I give Freshman Dan Rose a D-.
He should immediately print a retraction and a public apology since he got so many things wrong, even the fact that Bishop Morlino has been here much longer than one year, which is easily checked by a simple phone call.

Rose claims to be Catholic, yet sounds more like the whiny teenager and Madison Liberal wannabe than any serious journalist!

“The kind of community we are seems to indicate a high comfort level with virtually no public morality.” These are the words of Madison Bishop Robert Morlino, which appeared in his weekly article in The Catholic Herald newspaper. Morlino was transferred to Madison last summer and has been, until recently, a mildly irritating presence within the community.

On March 17, Morlino dismissed Ruth Kolpack from a position she had held at St. Thomas the Apostle church since 1995. Morlino dismissed her because she refused to denounce a scholarly thesis she had written demanding more rights for women within the church.

This unacceptable display of outright sexism and bigotry is only the first on Morlino’s recent list of similarly disconcerting decisions. The most disgusting of these actions by Morlino is his consistent use of the Catholic Church to further his own political agenda. . .

I guess this is the kind of lashing one just has to expect in Madison. Sigh.

True, the writing style does not suggest real journalism, but it does point to a person who needs our prayers.

1. If Madison says you’re doing something wrong as a bishop, odds are you’re doing something right!
2. His Excellency has been in Madison for a long time, not just since last summer…

Bishop Morlino is truly an excellent shepard for his diocese - he’d do well for Milwaukee, I’m sure. I only got a very brief chance to meet him personally once, but looking back I can tell Bishops Dolan and Morlino are a lot alike.
