Read this article at WDTPRS.We need more bishops like him!(I really don’t mean the  )

The effort by Madison Bishop Robert Morlino to staff several Catholic churches in the diocese with priests from a conservative Spanish society has met resistance in another community.
About 200 members of St. Mary’s Parish in Platteville met with Morlino at the church Monday night to question his decision to bring in three priests from the Society of Jesus Christ the Priest to lead the church.
A diocesan official and parishioners who attended the 90-minute meeting described it as largely civil but occasionally heated, with Morlino apologizing toward the end for having raised his voice earlier in the meeting.
“It was a tough evening for everyone,” said diocesan spokesman Brent King.
The society, based in Murcia, Spain, is known for a staunch, traditional approach to Catholic practice. There are now eight society priests at seven parishes in the diocese.
At other churches where they serve, the priests have prohibited girls from being altar servers:eek:, dispensed with the common Catholic practice of using trained lay people to assist with Communion:eek: and added Masses celebrated only in Latin:eek:.

Wait a minute…Progressive Catholics arguing with their bishop? I though only Traditional Catholics were rebellious. What’s happened to the obedience refrain we hear so often?

When they set up their own parallel seminaries, -]churches/-] chapels, and Magisterium, that criticism will make sense.

Ah, so you are saying as long as you don’t go into schism you are free to criticize the bishop.

Actually they might not be that conservative at all. We are after all talking about Madison, Wisconsin, where the measuring scales are so far left that a moderate Democrat might be called too conservative.

Can you disagree with the bishop at a meeting he calls to discuss things? Can you say, well, I think he’s making a prudentially and pastorally poor decision? Yeah, I think so.

Mind you, I’m sure I disagree 99% with these people. But if you think this at all establishes some kind of double standard between traditionalists and anyone else, I sure don’t see it.

done (of course they only have had a handful of promptly excommunicated graduates), done (also excommunicated for schism), and done (see LCWR, healthcare bill) 👍

Just playing devil’s advocate on that one.

AWSOME!!!

There is no need for girls to be altar servers. Serving at the altar of God is supposed to be one means of fostering vocations to the Priesthood of Christ…as Christ does not call females into his Priesthood, it is pointless for them to serve at the altar.

There is no need at any time for ANYONE but the Priest to serve the communion.

Every single Latin Rite Mass on earth should be said in Latin. There is no reason for it to not be…we are the LATIN Church. If you want the Mass in English, I hear England has a national Church that is bleeding members where the Mass is said in English.

God bless Bishops like this! 👍

Bishop Morlino is considered a traditional bishop so the progressives in his diocese will naturally wail and nash their teeth at initiatives like this.

Good observation.

I never heard of this society of priests, but it sound like a good thing this bishop is doing.

Has he any Opus Dei priests?

Hey, even a liberal from Austin TX probably would be considered a conservative in Madison. 😃

I see nothing wrong with what the Bishop is doing. Finally a bishop that is excersising his authority for good. No need for altar server girls.

i am just wondering, who are the people criticizing the Bishop? since when this has become a democracy? it seems to me that the progressists wants to rule the Church and is coming against the bishop’s decision? since when they have a say so in what priest to serve in hte Diocese or any other Church Catholic?

out with them and in with the Conservatives and lovers of the Faith. of course the devil is going to oppose the Truth.

Did you even read the article? He held a meeting to dialogue with people. If he didn’t want to talk about it, he wouldn’t have held a meeting, now would he?

You know what I just realize? Every time we hear about a Bishop who is going by what the Church teaches and gets criticized for it, we should send an email or letter to him informing him that one supports what he is doing and a prayer intention. These rare bishops are small in numbers and need all the support they can get from Catholics (no not (c)atholics). I know if I was a bishop and my dioceses was going against me because I went by Church teaching, it would really help me to see support from people I don’t even know.

I couldn’t find an email for the Bishop’s office, but the mailing address is there in the dioceses web-site.

That’s an excellent idea. I’m not sure who “(c)atholics” are or why they should be excluded, but anyone Catholic or not who supports what our bishops are doing should tell them! Even people of strong faith and conviction can benefit from a little well-aimed praise now and then.

  1. The pastor of this particular parish had been there 11 years. That’s an awfully long time to be at a parish and this fallout shows that people got too comfortable. My home parish is losing both the pastor and parochial vicar next month. Our community is losing two very good priests, but rather than bellyache about it, I’m happy that my fellow Catholics in other areas get to know these two priests. I mention this because it seems like some of the people in the article are more concerned with losing “their” priest.
  2. One of the EMHC’s in the article said that she was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to take Holy Communion to the homebound. If this task is being performed by a priest, shouldn’t she be happy about this? An EMHC should be doing what they do because they care about the homebound and the sick. If a priest is able to take Holy Communion to that person, the EMHC should be thrilled that the homebound person will not only have an opportunity to receive from a priest, but be able to get some spiritual guidance while he’s there too. In other words, the laity needs to realize that these kinds of duties are not for their enjoyment, but for the person they’re serving.

What I mean about (c)atholics are those against bishops or even the Church itself.
