The government has this right for publicly funded schools. That point was made clear in the article. Presumably, the right would not exist if the school did not receive money from the Government.
Many Catholic schools in the US are cutting off all financial ties with government entirely in anticipation. IMO, that’s the way to go. I don’t understand how Catholics can have this idea that the Protestants and the atheists are giving them money with no expectation of anything in return.

I’m disappointed but I don’t know enough about Canadian law to really comment on what could have been done.

no one is giving anyone anything, tax dollars are Catholics monies also.

I do not understand how is the goverment able to intrude to religious matters inside a Catholic School ? Canada is not an Islamic state.
I’m appauled that a Bishop would kiss the boot straps of the goverment after all of the mayrtrs of the Soviet Union and Viet Nam communist that fell victim to tyranny.

I guess because the government can.🤷

Here is the link to the Bishop’s contact information, it is listed under “Religious Education” which the Bishop heads in his diocese.

Please send him an email or phone his diocese/office to encourage him to preach the Truth of the Gospel.

Correct, but just as Catholics abhor their money going to immoral causes, Protestants abhor their money going to schools that teach that contraception and divorce are grave evils, and atheists do the same about homosexuality. There is no real moral equivalency between the 3 groups, but considering how tax dollars are from every person, every person is in fact giving money to organizations and thus can set their rules for them once they become dependent on that money.

We should become self-dependent to avoid organizations losing their autonomy to teach the Church’s doctrine to Protestant and secular culture’s wishes to remove it.

Here is a link to the Bishop of Yukon’s site. He is reachable under the “Religious Education” section, which he heads.

Please send him a message encouraging him to change his mind and preach the Truth, regardless of pressure or circumstance.

Have yourself a look at some of the persecution that Catholics are facing in our neighbor to our north…
The Catholic bishop of Calgary, Fred Henry, was threatened with litigation and charged with a human-rights violation after he wrote a letter to local churches outlining standard Catholic teaching on marriage. The Bishop is forced to spend thousands of dollars defending himself and has his reputation pummelled in the media
In British Columbia, a small town Knights of Columbus chapter rented out its building for a wedding party. When the hall managers learned that it was a lesbian couple, they apologized, explained that they could not proceed with the arrangement, and agreed to find an alternate venue and pay for new invitations to be printed. The couple wasn’t satisfied, and the hall management was prosecuted. The human-rights commission ruled that the Knights of Columbus should not have turned the couple down, and imposed a small fine on them.

Thanks for the excellent links. I have no doubt whatsoever that these people are deliberately targetting Catholic institutions knowing full well what our views are so that negative publicity with a media as a willing accomplice to demean Catholicism in the general public view.

They are shameful and despicable.

I am so saddened not only about the tyranny of the Canadian government, but about the capitulation to tyranny by a Catholic bishop.

Catholic students and families attending Catholic schools deserve to know the truth.

I encourage readers of this article to contact the bishop. The contact information is posted at the end of the article.
Don’t give in to the secular tyrants!

I am working on my doctoral dissertation and am trying to find parents who have been divorced in the past 3 years, and have a child between the ages of 2-5 who is currently in preschool. The survey is completely anonymous, and takes under 15 minutes. Thank you so much! surveymonkey.com/s/Y6RZ3HD

This is not correct. In Ontario as well as ALberta and I believe in other jurisdictions(Provinces) On our tax forms we are asked where (the educational portion) our tax dollars go. Public or Catholic. He this box is left blank it defaults to the Public board. I would imagine anyone who is supporting the CSB wishes too.

There are also many fully Private Catholic schools that accept no provincial money.

THe Bishop has a right to completely dismiss and fight this govt intrusion. Why he doesn’t I’m not sure. But I’m giving him the benefit of the doust that he knows what he is doing and that it will be looked after at a local level.

Please pray for our Bishops and all priests… this is our duty!!!😊

To me, that sounds like what should be done in this situation. The governments in Western countries have all become extremely hostile toward the Catholic Church. And this hostility to the Church is reflected in the classrooms of public schools, especially colleges. I also notice that the more the “gay” lobby’s agenda is endorsed and enforced the more the Catholic Church is hated. I’m only criticizing the lobby, not every homosexual individual.

It won’t be long before this hits the U.S. Until the Catholic Church in America gives up its tax exempt status, they will have to play along with the government’s rules. Look how fast the gay marriage debaucle swept through our country (New Jersey being the latest victim).

I’m guessing in another 10 years, all 50 states will allow gay marriage any every school, public or private, will have to teach that the gay lifestyle is perfectly acceptable. And keep your eye out on the administration’s new Common Core curriculum. They’re just getting started, folks.

In the end, government funding will have nothing to do with it. Catholic and religious schools will be shut down for teaching moral truth regardless of whether they receive government funding. We’d better be prepared to be an underground Church.

Well I was discussing more for America. I’m glad in Canada, Catholics can support Catholic schools and vice versa, though that makes me annoyed that they are still using that as a weapon.

In the US, however, there is no differentiation of money based on religion. Even if there was, the government always uses financial dependence to push agendas. Look at the Supreme Court ruling a few years ago that said that any school that accepted a dime of federal funding had to have military recruitment centers on campus. It won’t be long before abortion insurance is mandated at Catholic universities (and maybe even high schools!) if they take a dime of federal funding. The smart move is just to avoid any form of connection with the federal government in any country, financial or otherwise, to be honest.

It wasn’t to long ago that I would have never believed this. But now?..I’m not so sure. Cardinal Raymond Burke said in 2011 “We’re well on the way” to Christian persecution in the U.S…and I’m beginning to see he may be right. Here’s a link to Cardinal Burke’s remarks…

UNBELIEVABLE!! LOL

this will be coming to the US in the near future IMO, and I would bet my paycheck 100% of all catholic parishes in every state will comply with no questions. I have been slowly realizing much of the church is too concerned with mans law versus Gods law.

when will the church/vatican, as a whole finally stand up and say enough is enough and fight back, encourage their parishes to fight back, start taking action instead of standing on the side lines?
