I don’t want politics when I go to Mass.

One of the things I admire about the Orthodox- at least in the West. You wont hear them trying to influence voters.
I’ve never attended an Orthodox church so I’ll take your word for it, Ringil. But I’ve previously attended Catholic churches over decades and before 2000 I don’t recall Catholic churches trying to influence voters either like they do now.

His letter was pro-life…anti-contraception…and pro traditional marriage as set forth by Scriptures. In essence…his letter was pro Catholic. These are issues that the Catholic Church has always taught.

And your friend is wrong. I am Orthodox…and though I’d like to see more letters like this Catholic bishop…I have heard many Orthodox clergy preach on the exact same issues in the same manner.

Translation: tell people to vote for Romney

I really, really hope that this “you must vote GOP” doesn’t catch on with the Bishops.
That is the translation I get as well. I hope what you hope catches on, Ringil. But you have more hope than I do.

I would have to agree here, he is saying something, we cannot vote for the democrat party as long as their platform endorses intrinsic evils. You can try to spin it into this bishop is partisan, thats what you guys do. If we stand on the principle of the issues and vote against the democrat we are partisan, but you talk down the cadidte and speak up for the one pushing abortion and you are non partisan, humm. I’ll figure this game out one day.😊

Worship where? The Catholic Church? Because of the bishop’s letter?
Well I was speaking for me personally in that diocese. But yes also for me personally, Republican politics is a reason why it’s been months since I’ve worshiped in any Catholic church…

It’s kind of like this: (my words)

The Catholic Church has always stood for the Biblical definition of marriage between one man and one woman. One of the candidates wants to change that.

The Catholic Church has always stood against artificial birth control. One of the candidates wants to force it down our throats.

The Catholic Church has always defended the life of the child in the womb. One of the candidates supports abortion at all stages of life in the womb (and sometimes outside the womb in the case of partial birth abortion).

If you have a properly formed conscience…you will know which candidate stands against the Catholic Church (and all Christians for that matter).

Yes I know. There are a lot of other things the Catholic Church has taught too. It doesn’t matter to me as much now. But it’s those other things I wish I’d have heard more about when I was worshiping there.

U.S. Bishops Campaigning For Romney Accused Of Abusing Tax-Exempt Status

No complaints against pastors stumping for Obama in Churches

Catholic Bishops can not even reitrerate Church teaching on voting with out a complaint such as this. The Bishops said you should not vote for somebody who supports abortion or gay marriage, they did not campaign for Mitt Romney. No Church has lost tax exempt status for supporting or opposing political candidate
Yes indeed… You hit the nail on te head with this one. Reverend Wright anyone?

Ah yes…the democrats. Are they not the same party which took God out of their platform…and Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

And then was resoundingly booed by the delegates when they put them back in. :hmmm:

I attended the Catholic Church for over 40 years. I heard every Biblical precept you could possibly preach about. I heard about the doctrines and dogma of the Church. I heard about the moral issues.

What is it that you were not hearing?

For me it’s about emphasis. I was hearing too much about things such as in this bishop’s letter in comparison to the emphasis I heard on the social justice Jesus spoke about in Matt 25 in regard to the poor and the sick. And about war and peacemakers being blessed. I know the Catholic Church does much for the poor. And the last time I attended a Catholic Mass I will say we prayed intentions for government to help the poor too. Definitely if I attend a Catholic church in the future that would be where I’d go. But I’ve also heard another priest.at another parish say his answer to the poor was to get a job. That left a bad taste in my mouth. I can only go on my own experiences. I want to hear even more about the poor and the sick and war and peace. Though I agree the Catholic Church has not always been this tied to Republican or conservative politics. For me it’s been more so in the past decade or so. Maybe as more new conservative bishops and priests have taken the reins. I just know the first time I ever heard any indication at a Catholic Mass to vote for the Republican Presidential candidate was in 2000. Peace

It is generally accepted that the true “election” begins after labor day, which was Sept 3, 2012 of this year; however, if labeling me a troll helps you feel better, by all means, indulge yourself.

I am sorry if I find the group’s abject rejection of mathematics and science to be insufferable. Romney was, and is, a bad candidate. He had lots of issues in the primary, and he will lose on Tuesday.
I haven’t labeled you as anything…just noting your laughable claim that your join date isn’t in this election cycle.

Of course all of it is important. But do you think that anything is more important than 55 million babies being murdered in the womb and 1500 more per day as we speak. Do think that Jesus Christ might put a bit of emphasis on the murder of his little ones?
I know the Catholic Church does much for the poor.
Very much for the poor.

That was not very compassionate. Priests are sinners too you know.

I don’t think they are “tied to Republican politics.” I think that the Catholic Church is being attacked by radical liberal concepts that run counter to the very moral teachings that the Church has held dear and taught for centuries. You have an administration which is forcing contraception down their throats…legalizing homosexual “marraige” and supporting abortion on a level that we have never seen before.

The Church has to defend Herself. The Church has to take a stand…even to the point of martyrdom.

In my Christian faith I honestly don’t believe abortion, contraception, and SS marriage are *more *important in which to base my vote in a secular election on than for instance the poor or the sick without adequate health care coverage. Or than war and peace issues. And advocating tax policy that benefits the rich at the expense of program cuts for the poor and middle class is not something I want to be any part of. But of course if Jesus might want to now put a bit of emphasis on abortion, of course He can.

But in fairness to the Administration they might argue they are “forcing contraception down their throats” in order to have some uniformity in healthcare benefits and so people don’t need to quit their jobs due to lack of benefits. This whole religious freedom thing is just not black and white to me. Catholics I know say their freedom is being trampled on, But then for instance Christians of a more liberal persuasion who do not oppose the HHS mandate might argue it would otherwise be their religious freedom trampled on if they believe contraception should be part of health care benefits and if it isn’t. That’s what makes everything less than black and white in a pluralistic society of many beliefs such as ours. Marriage and abortion included. Not everyone is going to be happy with every law of the land a nation on earth arrives at for its citizens to live by. Not all people of various faiths agree even on interpretation of Scripture.

Yes I know priests are sinners too. And of course anyone can take a stand. God’s blessings to you in your faith. And His peace be with you always.

Why can’t all be on the agenda?

Why can’t all be on the agenda?
I don’t know. Maybe because we have a major 2 party system and neither political party is perfect. This isn’t heaven on earth afterall. Also even good people of faith don’t agree on everything. There are even Christians who disagree on things like choice and SS marriage.

You also are aware why a two party still exists and flourishes in this country. A Catholic ready to raise the Republican or Democratic banner isn’t making things any better; quite the opposite. Also true of any staunch liberal or conservative out there.
