I garuntee that the biggest drop in the number of abortions will be when it it is outright illegal or severely limited.
No doubt.

If Roe v Wade is overturned…abortion will really become an issue of choice. Women will have to decide if they want to choose to break the law and find a back alley abortionist to kill the baby. There will be a much greater risk to the mother’s own life when trying to find a (possibly unlicensed) doctor to kill the baby. I can guarantee you that abortion rates will drop drastically.

Abortion, gay marriage, euthanasia…you are supporting the party and candidates who support these things and try to hide behind an argument that those who oppose them can’t change anything through legislation. Sad. But, hey, you can certainly use your ill-formed conscience to justify your actions. God did give us free will to vote for evil.
My conscience is well-formed thank you very much.

So what if their platforms differ? The practical reality is that gay marriage is accepted within Republican families to an increasing extent, just like among Democrat families and there still remains strong opposition to it on BOTH sides.

One very basic message of the Gospel: it’s not what you say - it’s what you do. In the case of politicians, it’s not what you promise, but what actually results from your policies. I see no evidence, for example, despite the name-calling directed at Obama, to show that more abortions are happening now than happened in the past; his views then are on his own soul.

I live in the real world. If a woman wants an abortion - legal or not, she can have one - especially if her doctor wants to do it, but even if he doesn’t. This is 2012, not 1970 - no need for back street anything. She can have it right there in his office or in the ER if she’s early enough and if she knows what to say or do - all she needs is an internet connection or friends who have one. Women in countries where abortion is illegal, do it everyday. The only exception is for poor women in those countries where MOST people, including medical staff, still oppose abortion.

Indeed. And, you’ve chosen to vote for the president whose actions increase access to abortion, approves of gay marriage, forces Catholic institutions to provide contraception, etc. As I said, God does give us free will to support evil. You’ve made your choice. It is a sad one, and I pray for you to reconsider the direction you are headed.

And, you support the politicians who favor 100% right to choose to kill their unborn child, regardless of what the Church teaches.

You are aware that I can support a candidate while rejecting some of his stances, no? It’s called using the brain that God gave me. Not sure why anyone would feel intimidated by the workings of my grey matter, but hey…

I’m not misguided, neither am I proud of the uncharitable and out of bounds stuff that is said on BOTH sides of the campaign. Do you not listen to ‘him before whom all Republicans of note must bow’ if they do not wish to be lambasted as RINOs on the airwaves? Seriously, most people know better than to be swayed by cherry-picked exhibitions of lunacy by supporters on either side…
“Cherry picked”? You have a talent for selective listening. I challenge you to quote ANYTHING that Romney or his team has said comparable to these cretinous threats. Romney, BTW, has been a successful businessman his entire adult life, and gave away his ENTIRE inheritance to charity. Obama’s wife had a patronage job at a Chicago hospital for over $300G per year, which never existed before or after her tenure. Barack won’t even help his own BROTHER, whose son had a heart condition.
And where are Romney’s pals comparable to Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Frank Marshall Davis and Rashid Khalidy, to name a few? When we listen to Barack Obama off script, he sounds exactly like the kind of bum who would befriend such people, we can agree. Somehow, you manage, maybe for political purposes, to equate a very good man with a very bad one. Rob

We’ve been there: I support Obama, not his abortion stance. I can also walk and chew gum at the same time. Any more questions?

We have laws against theft, lying and murder. Yet those things still happen.

Simply throwing your hands up and saying abortion will happen anyways is silly.

I haven’t seen evidence of your rejection, rather ignoring and/or explaining away. If it was just rejection, you wouldn’t be arguing that legislation won’t change anything with regards to abortion, gay marriage, euthanasia, etc. IOW…I don’t buy it. But, you don’t have to justify voting for evil to me…you have free will.

I’m going with your actions, rather than your words. Any more questions?

More food stamps and phones will curtail abortion.

Didn’t you get the memo?

A very good man? Seriously? The one who wrote off 47% of his country and likes to fire people…that same one? The one who changes stances at the drop of a hat, so that I get dizzy trying to keep pace? The one in whose Church my male relatives would have been discriminated against at a time when I was old enough to know right from wrong? At least Obama repudiated Wright’s words, when did Romney repudiate the doctrine that classed me less than equal? Give…me…a…break. 🤷

Your grey matter has decided that a child’s life is of less import than temporal policies, which, BTW, have given those children who survive the carnage in utero $6T in added debt and a nearly collapsed financial system. Rob

You do realize that a non-trivial percentage of the country does not pay federal income taxes and gets benefits from the government?

Logically, it would follow that someone who wants reform in that area to get their skin in the game would not like it.

I do not see what the problem is here…

Let me say it again, I can support Obama and reject his abortion stance. That means I can value the life of the unborn in accordance with my Church’s teaching and reject the shapeshifters of the political landscape, still in accordance with those teachings. Sorry if that is difficult to accept.

Again, what compelling reason do you have for not voting for Romney? Is he a mass murderer and we don’t know it?

Friend, his point, and you probably know it, is that many of those who receive government checks will vote for the highest bidder, always the Democrat, and to hell with a Constitutional government of principle, a government of LAW and not MEN. Do you know that you egregiously twisting Mitt’s words, or not? 😊 Sheesh! Rob

Like the Ten Commandments, which influenced our legal system, the concept of being our brothers’ keepers seems also to have influenced our taxation system. Great - it speaks to the power of the Gospel to influence even the secular activities of man…

seekerz you miss the whole point of the thread. The Bishops, the Church and certainly a reading of the CCC would inform you that you cannot vote for Obama even if he like some of his policies because his pro-abortion stance is a non-negotiable. You can’t ignore the whole point of the thread, the Bishops, centuries of Catholic teaching because you like Obama’s healthcare bill.

By saying it’s your bra(name removed by moderator)ower that allows this you are making a false god of yourself and your intelligence. Don’t you see that?

I don’t always agree with the Bishops but I don’t think I’m ever so much smarter and nuanced than they. Do you?
