It’s not a unified and clear message, Mickey. They are! They are overwhelmingly proclaiming it from the pulpit.
Yes And we have posted it repeatedlyYou find something in Church teaching that contradicts his guidance? The Church is very clear that we can support a candidate whose views on the ‘non-negotiables’ are out of sync with ours IF we find proportionate reasons. With Mitt Romney, the first time I googled him I found more than enough reason to support Obama instead.
I don’t think that anyone who posts here has the faculty to claim invincible ignorance. Intractable stubbornness maybe.Unless someone is under the influence of “invincible ignorance”…it is intinsically evil to support someone who champions abortion/infanticide, contraception, homosexual “marriage”, etc.
It is a danger to their eternal soul.
Christ will be the judge.
I don’t know where you are getting the idea that the Church is limiting a “Catholic to a single choice.” Rather, it is that the Church (through our apostolic leaders) is eliminating choices. Every single bishop in the US opposed the HHS mandate. Every single bishop confirms the Church’s teaching on abortion. And many bishops have confirmed the Church’s teaching on gay marriage. In all these cases it seems clear to me that the Church opposes Obama as a candidate.I’m actually going to stop my participation in this discussion. I can produce the exact words of Caridnal Ratzinger, the Catholic voter’s guide, a US Bishop, and other clergy, that expressly does not limit a Catholic to a single choice. I don’t want to pitch authoritative men of the Church against each other in that fashion.
You should act on your conscience, and others should act on theirs.

If Catholics are to vote for one candidate only, why wouldn’t the Church plainly state so?** It is responsible for all His sheep.
Obviously, you are so obsessed with the issue that you are emotionally overreactive instead of studying what the documents actually say. You need to calm down and trust that sincere Catholics who in a legitimate manner think differently than you are in peace with the Lord. And you need to worry less that they are all going to hell. You have free will to vote as you please.
Scare mongering? Oh pulleease! If you want to vote for someone who overwhelmingly supports abortion/infanticide, contraception, and gay “marriage”…and you are at peace with that…then no one is forcing you otherwise.
The murder of Christ’s most precious and innocent children…those without a voice…those without a choice…that is what I call hostile to Christ’s message.
I pray daily for those who get abortions, perform abortions, campaign for abortions, procure abortions, and vote for those who support abortions…that they may repent with copious tears in this life…because it is too late in the next.
I don’t think we worry enough about anyone going to hell. I hope his concern for the state of souls isn’t a put off. Perhaps the approach is bothersome, but not the worry itself. And you need to worry less that they are all going to hell.
You are, I hope, including those innocents killed by drones, bombs and rockets made in the U.S.The murder of Christ’s most precious and innocent children…those without a voice…those without a choice…that is what I call hostile to Christ’s message
I do.You are, I hope, including those innocents killed by drones, bombs and rockets made in the U.S.
It can be confusing. As I try to discuss the issue in general terms, those that oppose my view automatically include Obama. I don’t support Obama, or Romney. What bothers me is the way Catholics ‘discuss’ the matter with each other. I try to be objective and think I can explain it; however, it’s apparent I failed in the explanation. Even though I failed explaining, I understand my point very well and it is that there are allowances for voting for whoever your conscience leads you to vote for.I don’t know where you are getting the idea that the Church is limiting a “Catholic to a single choice.” Rather, it is that the Church (through our apostolic leaders) is eliminating choices. But nowhere do I see the Church requiring a vote for Romney. Rather, many posting here see Romney as the only viable alternative to Obama. For my part, I don’t think a vote for a 3rd party is a sin. If you find the perfect candidate (one in line with all teachings of the Church), I think it fine to vote for them. I’m only saying that a vote for Obama is a vote against the Church.
Yeah…Obama is a big fan of the drones. You are, I hope, including those innocents killed by drones, bombs and rockets made in the U.S.
Ok. I don’t disagree. There certainly are allowances.I understand my point very well and it is that there are allowances for voting for whoever your conscience leads you to vote for.
You did not fail in the explanation, which is perfectly understood by those willing to listen. Alas a substantial number of posters here is so biased that they are incapable of listening, especially of listening to what the Church documents actually say.It can be confusing. I have studied it quite a bit. You are so obsessed with trying to justify a vote for Obama…that you are misinterpreting it.Obviously, you are so obsessed with the issue that you are emotionally overreactive instead of studying what the documents actually say.
I am very calm. Thank you for your concern. But I am always zealous when it comes to the murder of Christ’s precious children. You need to calm down
I do not want anyone to go to hell. That is why I pray for those involved in the abortion industry…include those who vote for candidates who will further that industry…which includes funding of the abortion mill, Planned Parenthood. And you need to worry less that they are all going to hell.
Well, we have to agree to disagree then.I have studied it quite a bit. You are so obsessed with trying to justify a vote for Obama…that you are misinterpreting it.
I tend to agree with that Scott.I don’t think that anyone who posts here has the faculty to claim invincible ignorance. Intractable stubbornness maybe.![]()
Again, you have free will to disagree.Well, we have to agree to disagree then.
There is great suspicion of a candidate who changes his position with his political aspirations. Romney once said, ‘he was more pro choice than Ted Kennedy.’ People are not comfortable with the possibility of being pandered to as a bloc of voters.Ok. I don’t disagree. There certainly are allowances.
Given the context of the thread (“anti-Obama letter”) and other posters, I’ve been trying to understand how anyone’s conscience can justify a vote for Obama. With other candidates, it is perhaps not so clear.
Were they targeted? You are, I hope, including those innocents killed by drones, bombs and rockets made in the U.S.
Innocents are not ‘targeted’.Were they targeted?
