Bishop Pilla Writes Letter of Resignation

I find this interesting, considering that Bishop Garland of Marquette (MI) also submitted his retirement request well ahead of his 75th birthday. Here is a link to that story. I believe Bishop Garland cited health reasons. His successor will be the youngest Bishop in the U.S.

I wonder if there is a connection…or perhaps Bishop Garland’s action simply inspired Bishop Pilla to do the same.

Bishop Pilla has been in seriously declining health for the past 8 or so years, so it may just be coincidence.

Just because he submitted does not mean it will be accepted.

He’ll be 75 in 18 months…if he waited until then, he might not be able to retire until 77 years old.

There is a new papal nuncio coming in January…I can’t imagine this one will move forward much anytime soon.
 
Bishop Pilla is being forced out. He actually submited his resignation letter some time ago, encouraged by the Vatican. Bishop Pilla had asked that he be permitted to celebrate his 25th Aniversary.

Since this has been in the works for some time, his resignation will be accepted within days.

I am not sure if he is being forced out due to the homosexual abuse of teens’ scandal, the ongoing existence of Futurechurch on Diocese of Cleveland property, the ongoing federal investigation into the finances of the Diocese of Cleveland or a combination of all thee factors. But it had nothing to do with his health.
 
Do you have a source for him being forced out? I know that most if not all of the problems that you cited do exist.

I didn’t know you were here, My FRiend!
My sister just had a knee replaced and we have to spend time in Berea for her recovery. I really don’t want to go back to my old parish (since the pastor died, the new one is far from Historically Catholic).
Got any suggestions?
 
Bishop Pilla also put women in leadership positions. While he “discouraged” organizations like FutureChurch he didn’t forbid it.

Oh no…not a woman in a leadership position…I’m surprised the church in Cleveland wasn’t swallowed into the earth.

Can you give examples? Are you saying they were in inappropriate leadership positions? (something to do with coordinating the diaconate, seminaries, etc.?)
