I hope the homosexuals who join the Boy Scouts of America will behave in a more decent way than the many who entered the priesthood in our Catholic Church. Hopefully, the Boy Scouts of America will not have to face huge scandals ( as the church has had to face in terms of homosexuality)down the road.
Thank You for saving me the typing!

Also the new scouts policy does not go against Catholic Teaching. I wish more Catholics would take the time to see this for themselves.

This bishop obviously issued this statement partly so his people will better understand how Boy Scout’s have actually changed their policy. He says reports in the media that the Boy Scouts of American have changed their policy so that they will admit “openly gay” or “openly homosexual” young men, are false. Instead, their new policy states that “no youth may be denied membership on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.” Their policy also states that “any sexual conduct, whether homosexual or heterosexual” by their youth is contrary to the virtues of scouting. At this time he concludes, there does not seem to be an obstacle to Catholic sponsorship of scouting units in his diocese. However, this bishop also says that more study is being carried out by the U.S. bishops on this issue. He also says he will be vigilant himself.
This bishop’s official statement is at www.dioceseofrockford.org/BSA
This is what I keep saying. 😛

"In the Diocese of Rockford, 42 scouting units are sponsored by Catholic parishes or organizations. At this time the new standard adopted by the Boy Scouts of America does not seem to provide an obstacle to our continued sponsorship of those troops or of scouting, as long as Catholic principles of morality are followed."
.

Followed as they were in the Church!!!
For me, this statement says the Shepherds look the other way when they see the wolf entering the sheep fold :bighanky:!!

I think that’s overstating things.
From what I have seen… and see…this is not an overstatement, Joe…the shepherd’s do not have to look far to see their own past mistakes on this issue!! Personally, If I had young sons in the Boy Scouts at this point in time they would be removed*! *

I’d be very careful about placing yourself in a position of judgement over a bishop on the basis of one statement that you personally disagree with. If he has said something false, then it falls on you to prove it. If he has not spoken falsely, why the insinuations?

Exactly…each parent must decide what is best for their own and act accordingly less they themselves be guilty of negligence in their moral responsibilities to their children.

Why should the news that the Church is under constant attack be a surprise to anyone? The Roman Catholic Church is Satan’s number one enemy! He is most threatened by it and continually weaves his schemes to undermine and discredit it. Sure the human aspect of the Church will always mess up. But the truth She as the Mystical Body of Christ protects will never be prevailed against regardless of the weaknesses, mistakes and sins of people. The Faith is perfect, the faithful are not.

We can’t deny that the administration of the Church was less than vigilent in admitting homosexual men into the priesthood and in dealing with abuses promply and effectively as were many other organizations. Hopefully we have learned from our mistakes.

Do not try to divert me from my opinion on this matter, Joe!

I think it’s the scouts of St. George that are getting rolling due to this particular attack.

Indifference or promotion of something that is not against Catholic Teaching due solely on one’s inaction against temptation for a very serious sin, is tiptoeing on some extremely thin ice.

As if anyone in this category will be as loud when temptation wins and therefore, they will state they should be kicked out of the group.

There is a reason why they call them slippery slopes.

In the Boy Scouts of America , homosexual child sex abuse happens all too often. There have been over 2,000 cases of abuse.

For example:
Scout leader Brett Tayler was charged with more than
* 30 counts of child molestation*** and exploitation. He is suspected of molesting at least 10 boys from ages** 6-9** years old;
Scout leader Peter Robert Stibal II was sentenced to* 21 years*** for sexually abusing four Scouts from 2003 to 2008 and** possessing child pornography**; and
Douglas Smith Jr., who ran the child-abuse prevention program for the Boy Scouts of America , was sentenced to** eight years** in federal prison for** trafficking child pornography** on the Internet.
If such* crimes have already come to the light*** in the Boy Scouts, one must ask why the** radical homosexual lobby **is determined to force the BSA to allow homosexuals to infiltrate their organization.

I’m not trying to divert you in any way from your opinion. You can certainly express your opinion and I can understand why a Catholic would want to leave scouting.

But you said:

For me, this statement says the Shepherds look the other way when they see the wolf entering the sheep fold.

Perhaps I am minsunderstanding you, but this sounds like an accusation against either this individual bishop or the bishops in general that they are looking the other way and allowing an evil element to creep in amongst the faithful. I consider that a pretty serious accusation to level at any bishop or the bishops in general. And serious accusations require concrete proof. Do you really believe that this bishop (or all the bishops) don’t mind turning a blind eye to the evil of the world?

Again, maybe I’m misunderstanding what point you are making and I would happily stand corrected if that is the case.

I don’t at all understand LSN’s use of these examples in building a case against the Boy Scouts. Someone could just as easily switch out the names of the scout leaders and replace them with the names of some Catholic priests who have been convicted of abuse to use as a reason to stay away from the Catholic Church.

How about the same method of dealing with these types of issues

By the way, the NCCS has locked down their Facebook page to all mentions of alternative Scouting organizations, saying that such organizations are “not within our mission.” After censoring their Facebook page they then posted hand-selected posts from four bishops who agree with them, ignoring Bp. Loverde.

If you’re wrong on the issue, just delete everybody who disagrees?

I thought a Scout was supposed to be trustworthy…

It’s time to go, folks.

The past two weeks have been all about damage control. I feel sorry for the adult leaders who have invested years and time into the BSA to see it come to this. I am equally disturbed that the NCCS is playing BSA “supporter”. Is the BSA the only group that the NCCS is affiliated with?

Thanks for the link to Bp. Loverde. Glad some bishops are taking a stand.
