What do you say when a Bishop says this?

‘But do you believe?’: 'Yes! Yes! '; ‘What do you believe in?’; ‘In God!’; ‘But what is God for you?’; ‘God, God’. But God does not exist: Do not be shocked! So God does not exist! There is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, they are persons, they are not some vague idea in the clouds … This God spray does not exist! The three persons exist!”

Please do not reply immediately if you want to know who said it before you reply. I wanted to hear people’s response to what was said, and so I deliberately did not provide that information. Please think of how you would reply, and then look, and then reply if you still desire to do so.

I feel that it does not matter who said it, if it is wrong or needs explanation then it simply is or does. Others felt I was being deceptive, and that was not my intention.

Who is this bishop? Where is he?

You must pray for that bishop. But of course don’t tell him you are praying for him and start a longer discussion. Just pray.
Nothing to be scared about, in 2000 years many bishops have had personal sins and some even denied Christ. You must pray for his own soul and change of heart.

He’s acknowledging the trinity.

I think he might be trying to get at some point, in a clumsy manner.
He might not necessarily be saying anything heretical.

I would try to get a further explanation. Or more context.

So now you’ve moved on to deception through omission and trying to bait people into Pope-bashing?

Keep it classy, @Teek.

That’s a real Protes… I mean Catholic attitude to have.

I strongly urge you to stop wasting your time reading the ramblings of rebels (like NovusOrdoWatch where you got this from), and instead spend it reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

@steve-b He’s referencing this quote from the Pope, where the Pope is not saying that God doesn’t exist PERIOD, but rather that false ideas of him are incorrect. That God is not simply some unreachable far off being, but rather is near at hand. Here’s the full context:

“You pray - said the Pope - with a friend, who is your companion on life’s journey, you pray with the Father and you pray in the Holy Spirit. The friend is Jesus”:

“He accompanies us and teaches us to pray. And our prayer should be Trinitarian. So often [people ask]: ‘But do you believe?’: 'Yes! The three persons exist! Jesus is our companion on the journey who gives us what we ask; the Father who cares for us and loves us; and the Holy Spirit is the gift, the extra gift from the Father, that our consciousness does not dare to hope for”.

The Holy Father EXPLICITLY states that God exists in Three Persons, then enumerates each one of the Three Persons. How much clearer can he possibly get?

Very deceptive of you to leave out all the context.

It seems he himself has been deceived by the likes of dissident extremist websites.

The only problem is, every time I’ve dealt with @Teek so far, instead of being open to learning and correction, he buttons down and attacks the Pope with more fury.

I get the feeling he is harboring some pretty deep resentments for the Pope.

Exactly where was I deceptive?

I was out with Catholic friends and I read that quote out loud, without telling them it was a Bishop, just “what do you think about someone saying this,” and they were ALL in agreement that it was terrible, it denied the oneness of God. “Someone should correct them on that—are they Catholic?!”

I told them a Bishop said it and they all got upset. They said “he should be removed from his position”, “how could a Bishop be ignorant enough to spout something like that!?” “Who made him a Bishop? They should be more careful!”

“What diocese?”

When I said “Rome,” they all got quiet.

Then the one that said, “How could a Bishop be ignorant enough to spout something like that,” said: “Oh. Maybe he meant something different.”

I decided to ask that here, to see if it is different.

It is what he said.

I am defending Catholic doctrine on the Trinity, defending our God. I should be in perfect agreement with the Pope when I say there is One God, in three Persons.

Are you are saying what I am saying is wrong, that I am wrong to vehemently object to someone saying something that is that contrary to Catholic teaching?

It is both sad and frustrating to see someone who claims to be Catholic who over and over and over again viciously attacks the Pope without even trying to understand him.

So ready for hate, so ready to sow division. No charity and no understanding at all to be found.

If you can’t see why the OP was a deception falling under the “lie by omission” category, then I just don’t even know.

I’m done here. You don’t want to understand. You want to justify your passive aggressive contempt for the Holy Father.

You’re on a real dangerous road @Teek. The road you’re on almost always leads to schism or outright heresy. I wouldn’t be surprised if a year from now you’ve left communion with Rome if you don’t repent.

May God have mercy on you for despising His Vicar on Earth.

What HE said is dangerous. Nothing I have done expresses ill will towards the Pope. I respect him enough to listen to what he is saying.

Maybe he was testing you to see how strong and deep your belief in God is.

I am very sorry that you felt deceived.

Does it matter who said it? Wrong is wrong, right is right.

I wanted to know how people felt about what was said. The minute you say “What do you think about this thing that the Pope said?” people accuse you of hating the Pope.

I do not hate the Pope. I love God, I love the Church. I love truth. I did not make anything up.
