Just what are we to make of this?

"The San Elredo Community, which is backed by Bishop Raul Vera of Saltillo, Mexico, plans to request that civil unions between same-sex couples from now on be referred to as “marriage.”
and
“Bishop Raul Vera Lopez of the Diocese of Saltillo has repeatedly expressed support for same-sex unions.”

Pray for our Bishops!

He’s definitely going against Church teaching. I support ministry reaching out to homosexuals in order to get them to better understand the truth about homosexuality and help them to lead lives of virtue, but supporting civil unions (let alone wanting them to be referred to as marriage) is wrong.:tsktsk:

This is a matter for the Vatican to deal with. there is nothing we can do.

WisdomSeeker, I agree to a point, but this also:

Quote from the late Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen:
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our Bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops like bishops and your religious act like religious”

👍
Historically, this has proven to be true.

This is what each one of us must do - - - - - -

Whenever you can, forward information regarding any Bishop going against Church teaching, directly to the VATICAN.
Email is available.

Also, cc the Papal Nuncio assigned for that Country if possible.

Remember the Vatican just got rid of a bad Bishop in Australia. 👍

Yes, I agree with you. My point was that we can’t really admonish or change this bishop’s view.

Plus, the people under his care should be the ones to take care of this problem, should not they?

What is the proper place in the Vatican to send it and what is their e-mail address? I have just been on the Vatican website and cannot seem to find it.

WOW! This is really getting bold and absolutely against Church teaching. I don’t see how this can possibly be ignored by the Vatican.
CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING PROPOSALS TO GIVE LEGAL RECOGNITION
TO UNIONS BETWEEN HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS
LIBRERIA EDITRICE VATICANA
The Church teaches that respect for homosexual persons cannot lead in any way to approval of homosexual behaviour or to legal recognition of homosexual unions. The common good requires that laws recognize, promote and protect marriage as the basis of the family, the primary unit of society. Legal recognition of homosexual unions or placing them on the same level as marriage would mean not only the approval of deviant behaviour, with the consequence of making it a model in present-day society, but would also obscure basic values which belong to the common inheritance of humanity. The Church cannot fail to defend these values, for the good of men and women and for the good of society itself.

Pathetic. I wish the Church would stand against these Bishops quicker, the example of the Aussie Bishop should not have gone on so long.

I sent the link along to the e-mail address you provided. Unfortunately, it bounced back almost immediately. Anyone have other suggestions?

Peace,
I’d try again-mine never bounce back.

Given that many parts of Mexico are poor and without adequate internet services, its up to us to aide our south of the border brothers and sisters.

Yes I agree with. Since we are one with them wherever they are. Yes, you maybe right many of them probably dont even know what is really going.

Hello Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,

Indeed. This is awful. I try to keep things clear. That is to not think that ALL Bishops are awful and try not to have people that have certain interests and agendas with the Church direct and influence my perception. But, I do know that there are Bishops and priests that are misdirecting and teaching unsound doctrine.I also know that there are a lot of exemplary and holy Bishops and priests. I try not to let groups muddy up the water for me.

When a Bishop violate the teachings of the faith who is the direct authority? Is it the Papal Nuncio or does the United States Conference of Bishops have any authority over individual Bishops?

I happen to have just been reading this article before reading this thread:

Liberal U.S. Catholics say Church not listening
reuters.com/article/2011/06/12/us-usa-catholics-idUSTRE75B2CE20110612?feedType=RSS

These things just make me feel that I am living beyond my days. I cannot help but to be shocked and sad and pray. My nephew’s first child was born four weeks ago. He lives in California where I have read the indoctrination of children promoting homosexuality (in the school system - Milk Law ?) is legal and active. I want to let my nephew know and hopefully he could move back east before his son starts school.

Peace,

Abba
