Tell women that were abused that they were almost non existant.

I understand that from a statistical standpoint there were more boys at risk for this. Of course, the way the church was structured then, when the incidents were happening you are talking about here the altar boys were good targets. Years later, you now have altar girls. 🤷
Nothing was learned then, or now it seems.
Just what are you basing your opinions on…Have you attendted mass and seen how things are now…Or are you just here to throw stones at Catholics?

Many gay people marry…I have no idea what the statistics is on these priests at all…As far as I am concerned they should be in the slammer

I think that some people might experiment…that doesn’t mean they are necessarily gay…I think they need to be chaste to enter the seminary…That means celibate for a long period of time
What is a long period of time for a young man about 18 years old?

They are the exception, even within the “problem”. Little children accounted for less than 6% of the total abuse allegations (source: the John Jay report) and the majority of the assaults were male-male in nature. While sexual abuse of a little girl is heinous and reprehensible, you cannot posit a solution or a cause by looking only at the less than 5% of the victims that fit that profile. On the other hand, 81% of the abuse was male-male and 77% was older, but still minor, victims. If you were interested in honestly looking at causes and solutions, wouldn’t it make sense to start there instead of the less than 6%?

Thow stones at catholics?

You must be kidding me.

I don’t know it would depend on the people who admit young men to the seminary…I have heard 5 years but don’t take that as sealed in stone. for I am not sure

Agreed! Totally. Technically, no desire 3 years before ordination to being a deacon.

Not to be dismissive of your statistics, but if you are trying to “make sense” of this, I don’t think you are understanding my point. None of this makes sense, and the only thing I could argue for the catholic side would be the same old same old defenses. I’m far more interested in your total lack of defense on the less than 6 percent (taking your stats here)

My agnostic friend, I agree with you about playing the numbers game about something like child sexual abuse. If true, that 6% is 100% to the little girl or woman that it happened to. The point, I believe, is not the number. It is the institution that let it happen at any percent.

Happy to be your friend, my new catholic friend.

🙂

Glad you understood what I was driving at.

What lack of defense??? It all indefensible. You are the one who said “what about…?” If you honestly want to know “why” you can interview each clergyman individually or you can look at the statistics, the patterns and the facts. The Church will not be able to assure herself or the faithful that this will never happen again if she focuses on the 6% and ignores the 80% in an attempt to avoid offending the homsexual rights advocates.

How did I end up being a homosexual rights advocate now? On top of being an anticatholic, and many more things?

Unbelieveable you people are.

Hiyas:)

emphasis mine

I think, “she” is referencing the Church…not you.

I hope this helps

Yes, who doesn’t know the term Mother Church or that the church is the bride of christ (therefore referred to as she)

Thanks for the obvious.

Corki,

If something is indefensible, by definition it has no defense.

You make zero sense here, You lost me in your first illogical sentence.

Since reading comprehension is a problem here tonight at caf, I will just have to laugh this one off.
Honestly, if anyone missed pnewton’s false accusation about my being anticatholic, let me remind you that it is still there for you all to see.
