Bishop David M. O’Connell of Trenton has urged members of a New Jersey church community to reconsider their decision to break from the Catholic Church and join an “independent” jurisdiction.

This is very unfortunate. The denomination which the the parishes have joined claims to be Catholic, and even has a bishop (George R. Lucey) who may or may not be validly consecrated, but definitely not consecrated licitly.

I do hope they join back with the Catholic Church.Or maybe the bishop will allow them to found a new smaller parish.Don’t know anything about the group they want to join, but they would be better off with the Polish National Catholic Church.Their bishops and sacraments as far as i know are licit, and members of their church may take communion in a Roman Catholic Church, and there is talks between them and Rome with possibly returning to us.There is information on the Polish national Catholic church on the web and they have a website.

I initially saw this on Father Z’s blog. It seems that this dispute came about because three parishes merged into one, and many of the parishioners were Spanish and Portuguese-speaking, so they wouldn’t have Masses said in their languages in the new parish.

The group they want to join is on the lines of the American ‘Catholic’ Council, which had a conference in Detroit recently and ran into trouble with the Archbishop out there. Ditto with groups like Call To Action, etc.-they want the same old liberal stuff (‘choice’ with regards to abortion, married priests and priestesses).

Sheesh…I’m glad that the Bishop of Trenton is trying to get these people to mend their ways and come back to the ‘mainstream Church’.
