The bishops of England and Wales have strongly criticised proposals to allow abortion advertisements on television.
In a submission to the Advertising Standards Authority the bishops also severely criticised proposals for contraception adverts aimed at children as young as 10, saying they would result in the sexualisation of young people and increase the problems of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases they were designed to solve.
The submission by the bishops, in conjunction with the Linacre Centre for Healthcare Ethics, was in response to a request by ASA that interested parties submit views on proposals to change the Broadcast Committee of Advertising’s Practice Code on advertising.
