I would explain the link, but it would be best to read it yourself and see how unscholaryly they are in this article. Reminds me of writing by a certain professor at my alma mater, Marquette, a Dan Maguire… mostly takes writings out of context and very little in the way of factual support or citing info.

Let me cover a point – it was suggested we should not withhold donations to the University, but send them to other departments.

That doesn’t work – because money is fungible. One dollar will substitute for another. Let me explain:

I was once appointed “keyman” for the Combied Federal Campaign. Now before I go soliciting money from other people, I want to be sure I know where the money is going. So I poked around. I found that you could designate where your donation goes – say to Saint Jude’s Hospital.

At least that’s what they **tell **you.

But before the campaign starts, they decide how much money each participating agency will get. Let’s say the decide Saint Jude’s will get $10,000. If I donate a dollar designated for Saint Jude’s, Saint Jude will still get $10,000 – but they will be notified to send me a thank you note.

If people designate a total of $20,000 to go to Saint Jude’s – Saint Jude still gets $10,000. If they designate $100,000 to go to Saint Jude’s – Saint Jude still only gets $10,000. But they have to send out a lot of thank you notes.

Its another example of my theory on modern dissenters:

They don’t believe in original sin. To the dissenters, be they Call to Action or Liberation Theologians, they all appear to reject the teaching of the universal sinfulness of mankind. To this kind of thinking, evil is only to be found in the wealthy and powerful class. THEY are the source of all evil. Such a system of belief cannot tolerate any remnants of genuine catholicism that state that we ALL are sinful and in need of salvation and sanctification. Since a large percentage of average, ordinary, decent seeming Americans engage in this act (cohabitation), ergo it must not be sinful after all!

It’s part of the general worship of man instead of God. Man is not a fallen creature, but the supreme arbiter of truth.

That’s another thing that gets me – when you look at the actual work of some of these professors, you have to ask yourself, “For what they pay, can’t they get someone half-way competent?”

They’re not that far from us – we believe God created us in His image. They believe they can create God in their image.:whacky:

Since the so-called “revolutions” of the 1960s, which included the sexual and drug revolutions that “liberated” everyone, Christians have been gently led by the hand away from the narrow path.

New ideas, living in “modern” times, change. We all want those things, right? What happened to the people of Israel who were waiting for Moses to come down from the Mount? The Hippies, Radicals and Anarchists shouted: “Woodstock Nation! Off the Pigs! Burn the Country Down! Don’t Trust Anyone Over 30!” This marked the beginning of the end for traditional values and a start to making sex and drugs part of everyday life.

And coming to the present, that’s what it is now. Divorce - OK. Cohabitation - OK. Abortion - OK. Profanity - OK. Dressing like hookers - OK. Illegal drugs - OK. It’s kind of hard to live your life if you’re divorced, paying child suipport, working two jobs and smoking dope, plus having trouble with your girlfriend. Walking away from God’s laws has not liberated anyone.

Meanwhile, I have to wonder what passes for scholarship nowadays. The Holy Spirit has to be part of the process since all truth comes from God.

God bless,
Ed

The heart of the article argues, “Our pastoral proposal is straightforward: a return to the marital sequence of betrothal (with appropriate ritual to ensure community involvement), sexual intercourse, possible fertility, then ritual wedding to acknowledge and mark the consummation of both valid marriage and sacrament.”
The article continues, “Such a process would meet the legitimate Catholic and social requirement that the sexual act must take place only within a stable relationship.”
Archbishop Elden F. Curtiss of the Omaha archdiocese forcefully rejected CMF’s creative interpretation of Catholic teaching in a letter to U.S. Catholic. In his letter, the Omaha World-Herald reports, the Archbishop reaffirmed that, “Couples who live together without marriage do in fact live in sin objectively.”
